If you download the latest FlyPT Mover 2.9 you'll find some of silentchill's profiles are provided as examples. These contain his geometry details

Many thanks for sharing the actuator design files @SilentChill, I modeled it into solidworks combined with the frame of @PeterW.
below just a quick preview wich is far from final...any tips or late design changes are very welcome !

    Heya Craig,

    Great build :thumbs.

@alex1970 I'm at about the same stage as you... your eyebolts look to be clamped, can they rotate? Reading other builds I noted rotation at the top joint or rotation in the actuator itself. Mr Chills actuator has guide rails and is ridged. If this helps great, if I am wrong please ignore.

    Heya SC,

Do the fixed end support seals you used handle thrust and radial loads? My assumption is yes, but you've used them could you confirm? Using them will save me nearly 80 beer tokens over the thrust and radial bearings I've been considering.

That part holds the whole load of the rig so it's a pretty critical component I wouldnt want to try and cheap out on that part. It's the FK12 bearing housing

Very well seen, that was a fast way to get the assembly done, it is far from final. This and lots of other things are still in process of development, as I did a redesign of the Odrive PCB which is finaly ordered :blush (btw this odrive pcb is only 70x80mm). So time again to get the mechanics done.

    Really loving this project!

Apologies if this is in one of the videos as i havent had a chance to watch them. Any ideas on the aprox power and speed on these? Im thinking about building a 3 actuator setup to will need to lift around 200kg or so. There's the SFX100 of course but this seems like a much cooler and well cheaper project but some specs would be fantastic.

I found this which seem to be a motor above and one under but its at 1 amp https://electric-skateboard.builders/t/torque-curves-for-sk3s-6354-260kv-6374-149kv-6374-192kv/19721

If your wanting a 3DOF to lift 200kg I would deffo go with the Servo motors and Thanos board :)

Hi guys I have a question about the 6dof setups. When using monitors attached to the moving frame, does the game know that the monitors are moving? Does this cause problems with sync? Secondly, when using a VR headset, does the headset know that you are moving? I know they have head tracking, but does the movement of the chair your in cause any issues or is all of that fine?

thats a good question - it depends on the game

firstly the monitors get thrown about - that cant be good for them
i have noticed that r factor does move the screen about a bit - this may be editable in the settings

with vr if you fit the tracking camera to the rig the vr should be fine - some rigs use a tracking puck to track the base movement and work out your movement from there

With large axis movement rigs and VR you really need motion cancellation, where the movement of the rig is subtracted from the VR HMD view. Members have recently forked and are refining motion cancellation, using SteamVR Lighthouse based outside in tracked VR systems.

Do you reckon your 6dof could be capable of achieving 200kgs? Not so much for me but if I were to have ‘larger’ friends have a crack at it.

Currently in the process of receiving all my orders and all I’m waiting on now Are the motors and ball screws, once I’ve received everything I’ll start up my own thread

Hi SilentChill! Looking at your project for it having a great range of movement and more space for taller guys like me. Got issues with key components being unavailable these days. Odrives are out of stock or out of production, motors are not available anywhere online in the world, even small things like M4 brass insets link is not valid and I have trouble getting dimensions of those to source a replacement that would fir your STL models. Would you consider updating some links in the parts list?

Motors do have dimensions and specs, so I went looking for alternatives. This seems to be the closest match https://www.aliexpress.com/item/329...earchweb0_0,searchweb201602_,searchweb201603_
Do you think they could work?

That motor should work but be aware it has a 10mm shaft so unless you turn it down to 8mm or change the shaft, it wont fit the AMT102 encoder.

Silentchill - Getting ready to start my own 6DOF build. Comparing this setup to an AASD Thanos setup. I'm very impressed with both setups, but would like to hear the advantages of this one and what lead you to choose it. The Thanos setup looks pretty clean with nice enclosures for everything and appears to have some pretty good online support. Size isn't an issue for me, I don't mind paying a little more, and ultimately am just looking for power, functionality, and reliability.

Amazing job with the build! This is some great stuff!!

Either or to be honest , they cost around the same and perform around the same. Thanos has better support but odrive is upping their game little lately.
