    Hi All,
I've been building a little rig over the past few years and running an arduino code that fudges acceleration but now I think I'm ready for some real input from the game.
My rig is a Logitech G29 with an encoder patched on the other motor of the wheel and pots grafted onto the pedals(I wasn't sure about wiring into the fine logitech device), Arduino Mega 2650, two BTS7690 drivers, two 12v wiper motors with encoders and a 12v power supply.
The first thing I'd like to would be to use SMC3 with my motors but can't seem to find the solution, there are a number of threads with this discussion but I can't find the resolution. These threads date back two or three years, is there now concise solution?

    Thanks

    Welcome @PeskyD.

Any 6DOF is an ambitious project. So doing some research before getting in too deep is time well spent. Great to see you are following in the footsteps of others, that saves some time, frustration and money.

Bounce your plans and shopping list off members before jumping too far down what can be an expensive rabbit hole, if you get it wrong.

Use the Search on the Recent page to find the latest member 6DOF projects, as there have been many refinements to how members build 6DOF rigs.

You will also find plenty of helpful information in the FAQs, including a section on 6DOF rigs, along with design considerations: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/

If something sounds odd then look it up in the glossary: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/glossary-of-acronyms-and-names.66/

When you are ready please start your own project thread here and detail your project, so members can give support and advice where possible: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/

    Good luck with your project.

Thank you for the links and suggestions. I do have one question, is the promotion still ongoing whereby you get a copy of simtools at the end of the DIY project?

Sorry no, that offer is no longer available: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/end-simtools-free-diy-license-program.403/

The demo version of SimTools has the fully functional plugin for Live For Speed, specifically for testing persons.

Hi, I’m Spaceman Spliff. Just joined to find info on how to build a motion simpit for the F-16 in DCS world. Looking at possibly building a 4 corner actuator setup to do pitch/roll/heave and a 1/2 axis seat moved for thrust and yaw and mounted to (hopefully) a homemade extruded aluminum cockpit. Want to add that I have backgrounds in general construction, wiring, automotive, heavy fabrication and .mil quality control. These skills should transfer easily to this project.

    Welcome to Xsim

there is a load of info on here - you might have to go digging but there is almost certainly somebody who has done what you are about to do. Set up a build thread of your own its good for people to see what you are building

I plan on doing that once there’s a plan finalized. I think the easiest way to go about getting information would to look at the 3 topics individually, then combine and adapt as necessary for the final result. Plus the pride of saying “I learned how to do these things to build this” is a nice bonus

Hello everyone, I didn't realize that i am to introduce myself!! Sorry!

So I have been following you since last year, the year I decided to embark on the successful project thanks to you of building my 2 Dof armchair : https://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/my-2-dof-fs2020.18543/#post-249454

I have also just finished, thanks to you, my wind simulator with 2 PC fans and an arduino card! : https://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/wind-simu.18915/#post-249581

French (which explains the mistakes...), jack of all trades, handyman, lover of FS 2020 but also of all simulations in general, I was therefore able to make my dream come true with your existing talents on this site, so another thousand times thank you!

On to the next project ;)

When I joined this forum the sheer amount of information was so overwhelming it took several days until I discovered this thread. So I have to apologize that it's now up to me to catch up and introduce myself.

Hello, my name is Nicolas. I was always interested in avionics and when I was younger my dream was to become a pilot. But I don't mean just getting a PPL, no, my plan was to build my own plane. Unfortunatelly, as soon as I got married I no longer had enough time for extravagant hobbies. Now, I'm older and as kids are leaving the house I begin to have some resources left over, again. But I have to cut my expectations down a little bit so I decided try flight simulation instead of the real thing.

I'm self employed and make industrial electronics for a living. One one hand I hope this will help me a lot when building a motion platform. I also own a CNC milling machine and a 3D printer which should also be quite useful. On the other hand, I fear that my experience could also be a kind of obstacle. "Dissatisfaction is the mother of all inventions" but if you overdo it you'll never get finished. So please interrupt me if I talk too much scientific speach.

OK, in this sense, I stop talking and go back to work...

    G'day Everyone,

My name is Gav from South Australia.

I have been a dabbler in various sim programs for sometime (i.e. Flight, Racing, Truck, and Ship) and have been using basic equipment such as G25 (Car/Truck Sim) and Saitek Yoke & ST90 Stick (Flight). I generally use a wheel/yoke stand with an office chair, but did previously own a NLR cockpit in the past which I regretfully gave away some 3 years ago (although I am sure that the person who acquired it is having a great time - which is good).

All that said I still consider myself quite the Noob!

I recently found myself medically separated from my work due to a workplace injury/illness and have a little time on my hands so wanted to get a bit more involved in the sim world. I am looking to upgrading my current equipment/electronics over time and as I can afford it (i.e. DD Wheel, Load Cell Pedals, HOTAS, Haptics, and other accessories). I recently bought a Moza Handbrake and Sequential Shifter on sale - don't tell the wife!

My first step (when I can afford it) will be to acquire/buy -or- design/build a new sim cockpit with aluminium profile, preferably 80 or 160 profile as I want to add motion to eventually (with VR). As far motion goes, I have decided between either 4x actuator system (i.e. then 80 or 160 profile) or a simple (well not really!) 2 DOF motor and gearbox design (could then use a smaller profile or tubular steel build). I do want the build to be universal and easily swappable between racing and flight sims. I will need to do a lot more research before committing to design and build, I look forward to learning from everyones expertise and experience.

I am not very technically savvy, so this is going to be a steep learning curve for me. But, I am willing to give things ago and just ask that people be patient with my capacity and what might seem like simple or silly questions at times!

    Thanks in advance!

    Regards

    Gav

Hello, Kevin from California here. I'm a computer programmer by trade and my professional work has brought me into contact with quite a bit of industrial automation and robotics. My hobbies include building homebrew themed entertainment stuff, like animated holiday light shows, location-based video game experiences, and moderately complex animatronics / show action equipment for parties and parades. So I figured it was high time I start getting into the motion simulation space and taking my builds to the next level. So glad this community exists!

I'm still in the blue sky phase when it comes to what I'd like to start with right now, but ultimately (and there may be some intermediary steps along the way), I'm hoping to achieve:
    • a multi-passenger platform
    • capable of carrying at least two adults side-by-side (fully aware this creates significant center of mass issues, increases actuator size, etc. etc.)
    • playing a game in collaboration with each other, or maybe just watching a pre-rendered sequence together
Jury's still out on what the final experience might be, so I can't really say how many degrees of freedom I'll be needing just yet. I'd love to be able to eventually put together a 6-DOF Stewart platform with high-speed electric linear actuators and build a full-blown flight simulator, but I'm also wise enough to know how expensive, power hungry, and complex that would be. I'm more than willing to make trade-offs in order to achieve a result that suits the need, rather than the other way around. I'm inspired, for example, by:
    • Hang gliding simulators that achieve a whole heck of a lot by marrying a giant wrap-around screen with a single point of actuation (pitch) simulating both pitch as well as the positive g-forces you'd feel when rolling left or right into a turn. This lets you get a multi-passenger rig without worrying too much about balancing your load or having the system compensate for an uneven center of mass.
    • Many elevator simulators (and even some sailing ship and spaceflight simulators) use airbags at the corners of a moving platform, along with video and sound effects, to achieve rolling, pitching, and heaving motions. They're pretty slow, but effective if that's the kind of motion the experience calls for.
So yeah, I have a lot of ideas and haven't quite decided exactly where I'm gonna go, so apologies for being kind of a rambler in search of a concrete goal right now. To start, I'd like to just connect with as many of you as I can to figure out exactly what you've all discovered and learned building your own rigs. Hopefully by asking questions and engaging with you and your builds, I'll start figuring out what direction I really want to start heading in myself.

Thanks, and looking forward to getting to know you all!
