How high can the JRK's go before your asking for trouble or excess heat or diminishing returns ?

Im new to this myself, but if your just playing around till your bigger heatsinks come in I believe the jrks will shut themselves down if overloaded. Repeat dont take my word for it though.

Yes robbie confirmed that as well. I put the chip up to 180 and it didn't shut down so Obviously the chips can take quite the heating before going south. lol

I was asking about the voltage limits.

"The powerful jrk 12v12 motor controller is a highly configurable brushed DC motor controller that supports four interface modes: USB, logic-level serial, analog voltage, and hobby radio control (RC). The controller can be used as an open-loop speed control or for closed-loop speed or position control. The continuous output current is approximately 12 A (30 A max) and the operating range of 6–16 V (with transient protection up to 40 V)."

Appears so, crank that supply up!.
Actually I also remember seeing somewhere that the p.s. might even go into protect mode pushing it too high. Might want to keep it somewhere around 13.2 or so.

Awesome, Ill probably shoot for 13.2-13.5v and worst case scenario bump it back down if it shuts down.

as said, dont worry too much. One of the power supplies on my desk racer failed the other day, so one motor has 12v and the other 13.8v. There is some difference between the two with one getting more power than the other, but overall, once in game, I cannot tell the difference.
12v is fine, really, dont panic.

@Nick Moxley , do you run a fan over the top of them to cool them? I always so and despite the heatsinks getting too hot to touch with a finger and the motors needing fan cooling, neither have stopped.

yes i got a single fan going but will be adding a 2nd this week, Not really for temps as the hottest ive seen so far is 180 without the sink (moot point) and 120 with the sink and running a pretty wild profile with a 220lb guy in the seat. So when i Finally get my heatsinks i ordered and add the 2nd fan, i really doubt the boards will get above 120-130.

Than it's not that bad, 100F is about 38C, that's pretty normal for operating chip, ofcourse cooler is always better, but still, I thought you were talking about 100-120 degrees Celsius, that's like meltdown :)
