Good to see you had a solution. I have purchased 5 of these motors with no real movement of the shaft on any of them.

Ok new Pot mounts Again,. lets hope these work this time round. When i had the other pot off, it also didn't feel as Buttery smooth as they did when new. Pretty sure the pot mount's in conjunction with the gear box slop is what's caused the issue.(at least for the right side.) For the new mounts I made sure the pots slid into the mount and into the axle bolt with zero resistance thing's were a little tight at first but i reamed the mount and the axle bolt a little more to ensure it was "free".

Fingers crossed i dont have to fork out for new pots. o_O

Ya there's no question the one gear box had some movement in the main gear, the shim i used is .4mm thick so that .4 was enough to visually see the walk the axle bolt was doing to the pot. I just hope the bearing doesn't grab the shim and F thing's up. It is only thick packaging paper after all. ;)

outer race of the main gear bearing. Posted a pic earlier,

And the test did not go well, Pot locked up again and took quite the effort to get it to turn again, It feels like Crap on the inside and more than likely is completely pooched. Not happy to say the least.

Left side motor and pot are Ok but the pot doesn't feel like it did NEW, Granted the left motor never had the kind of play the right side did.

Sorry to hear about the motor problems, I have the same ones and all seems well with them.

I have 1/4" stubs tapped into my axle and one of them is a tiny bit crooked. My pots are hooked up with 1/4" nylon hose and hose clamps. Im hoping the hose takes the abuse from from my sloppy drilling into the axle, we shall see soon.

Smart idea ive seen a few version's of that style mount. My holes in the axle's were done on a lathe and technically should be BANG on....so im really at a loss as to why this happened. Unless it was the gear box slop the whole time and it damaged the pot immediately and I just didn't catch it in time before it was too late.

Dave the pic should be updated with a RED Ring around the shim.

Here's what I use and they do a fine job for any "out of round" shaft for pots. You can get then in different sizes on eBay.
Flexible coupling, aluminum, two set-screws per in/out shaft to pot - total 4. About 6.50 ea.

Yes It pulled out the excessive play in the box while remaining super free on the bearings.

Ok so im back to plastic flexible mounts, My right side hall effect is pooched i think, but im going to give it another whirl, worst case scenario the right side locks up again.

    Update,

Gave the pots a serious thrash testing for a good 2 hours yesterday and can happily report No more lock ups. Im sure if i check the pot it wont feel great, but more importantly it survived with the flexible mounts. I also did a video of JUST the pot mount and can say there's no Noticeable flex that i can see or that i can feel on the mounts or the Pot itself. So Im inclined to say you don't want a Super Rigid pot mount, you want a mount that has a Wee bit of flex to it. Wish i would have just stuck with the cheapo plastic mounts from the get go. Oh well lesson learned.

Second lesson learned from this thread. Im switching to thin aluminum sheet for pot mounts now.

    Oh and hey Jem,

Adjusting Power supply voltage went well, but supplies couldn't hold the minimum setting on the pot which was 12.9v without getting a shutdown here or there from "off track excursions" So dont feel bad about not leaving the pins open for further mods. Fan mod ya, But adjustable voltage .....No. :p

Talked to Pgsaw and he's looking into the issue on my gearbox and also inquiring if he can get a box separately. He Doesn't think his supplier has just the gear boxes alone but might make an exception in my case to get this issue squared away.

Ill let you know what comes of it.

    Update on gearbox

Pgsaw has managed to get a New gear box coming on the next shipment for me, AWESOME customer Service i must say. he also suggested shimming and green loctite on bearings as a solution but is wanting to send a new gear box and send back the one I have to the mfg for inspection.

I might just pull both boxes apart and shim where need be, The shimmed gear box seems to be A LOT quieter for some reason.
