    This is a sick build. I'm based on the Gold Coast and have plans to build something really similar using 8020 (static to start with). I think I've missed it in the thread but what was the reason for the top location to the rod ends being above the seat (thigh height) as opposed to attaching them to the bottom of the billet bracket?

    The base is 500x500 but if I were to do it again I would go at least 600x500, again it gives just a bit more inherent design leverage and in a compact design every bit counts.

    I am away staying with family for the next few weeks and as my 86yo father loves using VR with my compact sim I packed them both up and brought them with me...not something I suspect many members do.

    I arrived tonight, had dinner, set everything up and dad is straight into it, even though it is already 10:30pm!

    Dad has my old static rig and I have been trying to convince him for a year to upgrade my old PC that runs it for VR. I said I would provide the graphics card and water cooling if he gets the board, CPU and RAM. But so far no go. While Dad loves VR and will use it continuously for a full day I think he is hesitant about the extra complexity when I am not around for tech support. Hopefully the next 3 weeks can change his mind.

    I won't add motion just yet but I will add transducers when Game Vibe is released.

    What an awesome job, congratulations noorbeast. But you just killed my office chair. :)
    Do you believe your chair knee idea could be used with a shoulder mount + heave motor in the front? I don't have space constrainsts and a shoulder mount seems easy to me to build. Would the 50:1 produce enough speed?

    I'm planning to combine both. I currently have a 5 buttkicker setup with SimVibe and will add the seat mover.

    Do you have more info on GameVibe? I could help to test it and compare with my current SimVibe setup.

    50:1s can work well for a rig, but what you choose for motors is affected by all design choices. You can get an understanding of the physics and how choices/dimensions affect speed by having a play around with SimCalc and your design ideas: https://www.xsimulator.net/communit...e-linear-speed-and-forces-of-your-design.270/

    Yes the chair heave knee could be used with other designs, it has its pros and cons but particularly suited my compact and adjustability criteria.

    Last I heard @yobuddy was working on finishing a point release update for SimTools, which would be required to support GameVibe. GameVibe is in closed testing and it is up to @yobuddy to decide the range of hardware and participants for that process.

    Hi, Greetings from the US. Very nice project! I am curious as to what modifications you have done to enhance the VR experience. I just can't wear the goggles for an extended period of time, so I wondered if you might have experimented with 3D or 4K TVs along with the projection TV. Thank you,

    My interest is all around VR and things to enhance it, like haptics and additional motion cues.

    Others like @Pit have played around with multi projection setups and 3D, but are also now moving on to VR.

    If current gen VR is not for you then triple screens are likely the best way to go.

    Yes, I have long thought that triple screens were the long term goal when I started out with a 40in main screen and had a couple of 24in side screens. I may have to re-think that when I move my scratched 60in to the static rig.

    VR is great when it comes to immersion, but 3DVISION on triples is still top in terms of 3D. Especially in heavily shaking rigs I feel an advantage for triples and 3D as long the issue of necessary movement cancellation on VR headsets is not solved. Nevertheless I would never go back to 2D,, not even on 60" screens or curved screens etc.

    Triples have the advantage for resolution but we do now have motion cancellation for SteamVR, with pending higher resolution and FOV, so the VR future is very promising and nothing beats it for immersion.

    Agree, we should mention that it makes a difference in terms of seat shaker or motion platform. On a motion platform the IR Camera moves with the rig, on a seat shaker platform the camera does not move with the motion, which makes it very difficult getting rid of nausea...

    You are talking about the Rift cameras while I am talking about SteamVR base stations with motion cancellation, hence the different designs do not matter. SteamVR based motion cancellation can be used with the Rift, but has some limitations as it relies on using Revive.
