Just getting started in Sim racing. Need to have you all take a look at this PC and tell me if you think it will run AC in VR with a DOF H3 ?

Generally for VR the rule of thumb is the most powerful computer you can afford, particularly for simulation games as they are not optimised for VR.

The parts listed will work for VR but the GPU is likely marginal for simulation games, by that I mean Project Cars 2 would likely need to be run at below medium settings. There are variations between games, AC is a little less demanding on the GPU that PC2 in VR.

What VR HMD you use also has a significant impact on the GPU, particularly for HMDs with higher resolution and wider FOV.

I have a oculus quest 2 for the HMD.

I was thinking that I would up the GPU and Ram as the prices start to come down after all the mining ?

    And thanks for the reply.

The Quest 2 has good resolution but comparatively constricted FOV, so is not as GPU demanding as other high end PC HMDs.

I am not sure that GPU prices and availability will likely improve significantly for current gen GPUs in the short or medium term, it is not just mining but also Covid induced global chip shortages.

Personally I am looking at biting the cost bullet for a ASUS TUF-RTX 3080TI for the computer I just built, AMD Ryzen 9 5900X, WD_Black SN850 2TB NVMe, Corsair Vengeance LPX 64GB (2 x 32GB) DDR4 DRAM 3600MHz, Strix X570-I, an expensive little beastie!

    Wow, that is not cheep.

But back to the PC I am looking at. Set to low to mid will it work ,OK ?
If I like what I see ( +- ) I can go bigger later. OR ? Just go "BIGer" now ? Just keeps playing in my mind (if i had one ) start slow and then speed up ?

Sorry for being a wimp !

As per my comments the PC as described should work for VR, it will have some limitations for simulation games, with the question really being a guess about future costs/availability.

On the latter I can't see much being difference price wise until likely the end of life for current gen hardware, so it is more a case of what is the best PC you can get for whatever your max budget is.

If cost is a current issue then go for min spec now and plan/budget for a new computer for next gen hardware, accepting some settings compromises for a couple of years.

Or accept that current gen hardware is demanding a price premium and accept that you want it anyway, which is my particular choice for myself ;)

Only you can decide which is the best path for yourself.

That is a pretty powerful computer that should let you push simulation titles pretty well on a Quest, with some headroom for the immediate VR future.

Thanks a lot ! Should also have room to grow ? +- I used you specs as a guide line. Their is some time to ship delay (about 4 weeks ) and it would be under $2700. Sound about right for our times ?

So, are most of the games more tied to the net or can they be down loaded and played off line?

By room to grow I mean things like the motherboard, CPU and RAM are likely adequate to support this and next gen GPU as a possible upgrade path.

On price all you can do is shop around, keeping in mind that there may be end of financial year and other pending sales, which are often a good time to buy, if you know what you want.

Your configuration looks good. It may be necessary not to force too much on the details and the supersampling.
