2 DOF motion rig using 4 wiper motors & Arduino

    Some of the parts were printed solid (100% infill) like the motor arms, but most parts are 50% infill. PLA strength is not an issue if the part design takes into account less strength between layers than in the other directions.

    I found PLA better than ABS actually - similar strength in practice as PLA doesn't develop cracks over time like ABS does.

    The only thing to be careful with is temperature. PLA gets soft above 50C

    It's finally finished! I've just done a couple laps on the Nurburgring :D

    Here's the solution for the belt tensioner:

    This system of pulleys doubles the motion of the belt - both the belt and the attachment point get pulled at the same time. They obviously move in the same direction so the pulleys at the bottom reverse the motion, resulting in 2x motion.

    The belt system went from "not worth the effort" to "quite good". I'd still like it to tighten more, but this probably the best you can get without an electric tensioner. I'm happy.

    Nice build and nice 3d prints! It's amazing what you can do with PLA, very underrated. I might have to try out your seat belt tensioner idea.

    I'm using an Arduino board & SimHub. The fans are Delta FFB1212SH controlled with PWM through SimHub.

    Got the answer on the first page hehe.
    May I suggest connecting the structure of each couple of motors to each other, it will eliminate a bit of vibrations and strengthen to motor holder.

    This is a very nice build. Very tricky question. Will you be willing to share the design for the motor bracket? Best I have seen so far.
