Well my O-ring kit finally arrived today :) so was able to check if my pots were going to turn ok with my 3D printed bracket & spool ,,,everything turned like clockwork so hopefully they will work ok when i do some tests,,
By the way those pots are super cheapo but just wanted to test the theory before i get any decent ones,,

Just going to be putting 12v though the motors with the Ard + Monster Moto for now until i get a sabertooth.

I guess the next step is to sort a new seat and a U-joint,,

@stevemontuno just a word of caution on your pot mount system. The way you have them connected to the output (rubber o-ring) puts a great deal of side force on the pot shaft. This could kill them early. A direct link on the other side of the gearbox might be safer and more accurate.

Cheers for the heads up @Historiker ,,,There isn't really much force coming from the O-ring's to be honest ,,but i guess they are going to be doing a hell of a lot of work so i might try drilling the center of the axle this weekend and mount them like you say,,, thanks for the input dude,,,

On another note i was wondering what metal are most folk using for the axle arms,, i bought some steel to use but as it's quite heavy stuff i was wondering would i be better using aluminium or is ally too soft,,?

I would personally recommend steel but if you have a very very tight fit aluminum might work out. Just think of all the violent reverse movement that the joint will undergo.

Or, make a u shape for your pot where the pot arm goes through it and its supported on both sides.

I think I am one of the few who have used aluminium for the rods and in my case they are solid aluminium bar and because of the design are quite short.

I can confirm that very short solid aluminium rods will stand up to a 130+ kg user, but you would need much thicker material if they were longer.

Just a few minor updates ,,,,,

I made a couple of paddles for the motors,

    20160322_031511.jpg

Also went to the scrappy and picked up a Propshaft , just waiting on my mate to come round now with his welder so i can weld it to some steel plates,

    20160322_025817.jpg

Put a heat sink and 12v fan on the monster moto,,need to grab another MM and do the same again,,

    motion15.jpg

Also tonight my bro came round with another 6 motors for me , 2 of which were the 24v ones with the 30/1 gears , but 4 of them were 12v motors on the same type of gears but 25/1 ratio 3 of which were really big ,,
The specs on the large motors are ,,12v , 15amp ,, 150rpm ,,, and 200w ,,it doesn't mention the torque ,,they are pretty beastie though and also have a bracket on the back of the motor for support,,,

    20160322_033825.jpg

This might interest you @Nick Moxley ,, he said they are off of a TGA power pack for electric wheelchair,,the larger motors have 2 wheels attached to them,, the smaller ones having 1 wheel,

    motion11.jpg

kinda made my day seeing 12v on those motors ,,,i'll be putting those on the 30/1 ratio gears.
