    Same reaction I had,7lb a piece.

Now, Im trying to figure out the best way to mount an arm. Looks like the hole is 1/2 inch so I can get a threaded rod but Im not clear on how to best secure the rods and arms.

The hole can be either 1/2 inch or 12mm, so best to measure it to know for sure.

I haven't gotten that far yet, but looks like 1/2" to me. Is there an on-line source for the rods that are used to connect to the motors? Plenty of ball joint ends available, can't seem to find a source of the rod.

@noorbeast, thanks. Have you had a chance to take a look at the sketch I posted in thread #75, any comments / suggestions?

It certainly will work as pictured @reko19, though you may want to consider increasing the rod angles. @Pit, @SeatTime, @-kevin-, @Nick Moxley and others all have shoulder mount designs and are better placed to advise than myself.

What is the width measurement for the shoulder bar and how far apart will the rods be at the motors?

i will post dimensions tomorrow, don't have the drawing handy. i understand that increasing the width would be ideal but i am trying to minimize the footprint and increasing the angle would make it wider all together

Hit the hardware store, mine were 1/2 inch. Bought 1/4 inch by 3" bolts and lock washers for mounting through 1" square tubing. Also bought 1/4"inch by 1.5 inch bolts ...I will need to drill out the hole in the motor shafts a bit. I planned to drill another 1/4 hole for my bolt to attach to my flex coupling but I think I will drill out by coupling on one side to 1/2 inch and the other side to remain at 1/4 for the potentiometer....will have to wait since it's snowing and my workshop is freezing out back.

Something I notice while positioning these to my rig....yes they are huge and I imagine powerful with a much bigger motor. Immediately I am uncertain how I will mount them so they don't get in their own way. Gearbox contains screws so u would like to open it and reverse one side for the shafts that sticks out. Figure the securing screw will be strongest on the arm side. Not trying to hijack but we share these motor units in common. Best of luck. I feel I may need the welder out but was hoping to avoid modifications thay intense.

@shannonb1, there are mounting holes on the gear box. pretty sure this is all you need for mounting. check out other poststs on this forum, quite a few people used these motors.

Yeh I see the holes, My other motors had holes as well so its just figuring out the where. They dont line up to my old holes but thats not the issue, its about the motor arms and position.

Looking at the design, I believe that the universal joint should be moved a little further on, to have a better balance of the structure, and less stress to the engines.

I would personally sand down the threaded rod VS trying to open up the flex coupler. Did you not get the proper size couplers ?

I got 1/4 inch to 1/4 inch coupler. Should have got 1/4 inch to 1/2. I don't see the issue with boring out the center on one side to accommodate the bolt.

O boy, I think you will struggle big time to bore our the coupler That much, I would Yes go for 1/4 to 1/2 to make thing's strait bolt on. For some reason i thought you did like me and got 1/4" to 12mm, Which only being .7 differece is capable of being sanded down on either or, Axle or coupler.....I would however not try and DRILL the coupler, but take it to buddy's lathe to have to done properly.

Ordered 2 1/4 by 1/2 flex couplers off of ebay. Should be here by the weekend. In the meantime I might buy a lathe...no bs, why not.
