Ok its been a while but it's pretty much finished.

Alot of this is just going to be photos because I'm a bit short for time and I want to get back to playing! I just need more forum coins to play TrackMania;)

So the JRK's arrived - I thought they would be a bit bigger than they are! I wanted something a bit better to mount a heatsink to but I'll make something work.

So first things first - the shafts (which are 1/4 inch threaded rod) were cut and bolted to the motors which are already mounted to the timber base.

I'm not happy with the way I've done the lever from the shaft - its only being held there by the strength of the double-nuts, which isn't all that much considering the rotational forces being applied to it. I think I'll tack weld the lever to the nuts to stop and movement.

The position sensors were mounted on another steel bracket via a shaft coupler I got of eBay. This is working great! Better than I thought it would.

The levers connect via the rose joints to a threaded rod that is attached to the frame.

To go with my excessive control box that I wired up - I made a Start/Stop/EStop panel to mount next to the steering wheel.

So the idea is - you only require one plug in the wall.
You sit in the sim, hit the green button and everything starts up. The computer boots up in 17 seconds, the screens turn on automatically and 20 seconds later you are driving!

    20150328_153502.jpg
Then when you are done, shut down the computer and hit the red button and everything will turn off - zero power consumption.

If there is a problem with the motors or controllers - if shit starts getting hectic - just hit the red EStop button and it will drop the 12V power supply to the controllers and the motors to stop and motion, but keep the computer and screens running.

Everything behind the panel is ELV 12V but I should really have some sort of strain relief or protection on those cables - next time.

    Thank you @noorbeast !
My brother-in-law has just arrived with his second gen oculus rift (dk2) and we are in the process of getting that running!

I cannot wait - the first gen gave me motion sickness because I wasn't actually moving - it will be interesting to see if this simulator helps!?

    thanks again,
    masosi.

A word of advice @masosi, you may want to recheck and refine your motion profile with the Rift before using it for too long. If you are sensitive it is better to have less movement for sway and surge/pitch, but sharper inputs for things like heave.

Stop immediately if you feel the slightest bit off when using the Rift, as pushing it means the effects could last for a long time even after you have stopped. Small amounts of Rift use on a regular basis lets you acclimatise to it, which is even more important if you are also using motion.

    Have fun tonight!

@masosi - One question - on your video where you're driving, there is red light button turned on near E-Stop, when does green button turn on? I kinda thought red was indicating when everything is turned off and green when all is working.

Great job on making everything, nice movement and quality built. Now it's time for real fun, trying all kind of games and setting up the profiles :thumbs

Great to see your rig in action, well done :thumbs

You have plenty of sway and surge, you could dial up heave a bit more, which will really add a lot to your motion experience.
