2DOF Simulator by a Newbie

    This is just a temporary setup up of motors, Will du some justment, also ideas welcome. ;) also not sure if the angle is right. do not feel that the cabinet is moving much back and forward. CTC is around 40mm as i was not sure how the motors reacted. think i will try 80mm on the lever and see how the motors react.

    Is there an explanation in all the terms surge sway and so on in a drawing.

    The reason about the poor moving could be the too long distance to the pivot. The longer the distance the less the radius (sorry, could not better explain due to my horrible English ;) ). Anyway, I hope this helped for you.

    Some more really important information: If the motors will not stop due to a malfunction of the pots or whatever reason or shit could happens, the longer lever will turn 360° and will damage your rig.

    I could place the motors on some sort of a platform, and move them a bit closer to cabinet. but the rods from motor to cabinet would then be a bit shorter. maybe this is a soultion. i can see i have to work a bit on placement of motors.

    I dont think the motors can handle moving the pivot point because of the weight.

    I use 65mm centre on my seat mover, which only uses 70-80deg of movement from motor, this equates to 20 deg of roll and 10 deg of pitch, too put it into real terms your head move 300mm off centre on roll and close to 150mm in pitch. Personally to me any more makes the whole motion feel totally unrealistic, like an arcade machine.

    Suggestions, increase the lever to me 85mm would just about be the limits of the motor torque. On another note higher you go and further back reduces the force need by the motor to move the sim, but as @Pit has described lessens the overall movement.

    Will do some testing later. Need to mount the potentiometers and some soldering then im ready to hook the PC for some REAL Testing on this time consuming project. :grin

    Crap. potentiometer. Not good at motor/feedback Direction. Just lost 2. :mad:

    I know there are many ways to make this not happen. Redesign Again. ​

    First try is always hard, :) the cabinet needs alot of work. i just want to be sure that everythings work before i put to many ours shining up the cabinet.

    Did you follow my little tutorial, it shows how to check this, the jrks have a direction check, but you need to hold tension on the connecting rod as it may overshoot and break the pot when checking, didn't we already see a video of motor working.?

    eaorobbie. i think it´s safer to test when i have new pots. ;)

    My problem is with the wiper motors i dont think im able to mount the pots from the opposite side. i need to drill a hole in the back cover of motor and then glue the potentiometer on the gear. i will post a picture later today about a problem i see around that. on the gear there is a little round dot that looks like to run op against the back plate. but if i drill a little hole im afraid that the gear can move a little away from the motors gear and then wear out.

    Has it been done before.

    I know i need pictures to back this up. :)

    mind you, the gears I used meant I had to use 3 turn pots because of different gear sizes, but keeping gears the same fixes this.

    The motor brackets moved a bit but not enough to pull apart the meshing of the gear setup.
    as for testing, in the JRK utility under motor settings (I think), wind down max accell and max duty cycle to 100, that will really slow the motor down, so when you test it for direction, it moves real slow, enough to click stop and save breaking a pot going to far around. Once the motor direction is set, wind it back up.
    Also set PID to 2/2 0/3 1/1 standard for wipers to get you going and fiddle with PID later if needed.

    Finally got it up and running, Still alot on the to do list. :)

    Still need a lot on the fine tuning bit.

    "BSFT" Thanks for showing me the way to mount the pots. If i had kept to the old way it would have cost me many potentiometers.

    I would still like an explanation on heave surge roll and pitch terms.

    If someone have a drawing where its defined it would be great.

    Underbreaking the cabinets move forward but when acc. the cabinet lift backwards at it should but not nearly as much as it move forwards under breaking. is this the Heave og surge. im kind of lost here.

    Silly question, Thanks for the guide regarding axis. But what should the settings be in my situation when its a 2DOF.

    In simtools i have

    Standard it says:

    2 degrees of freedom (in your case) = roll and pitch.

    Yaw would be traction loss where you have the front on a pivot and move the back left or right and that's a good way to use a 3rd motor.
    Heave would be lifting the seat directly up.
    Surge is moving the whole thing backwards or forwards (not the same as pitch which pivots in the middle but can feel similar to surge in some cases).
