Hello X-simmers :) I am also new to this forum so I thought I would introduce myself here. I would like to build a working spitfire cockpit but will have to learn a LOT before I can even start with any serious building. As part of this educational process I have downloaded the X-Sim software and spent a few evening reading the manuals and help topics. Problem is that I have no idea where to start.

I have IL2-sturmovik (Forgotten Battles) but want to run Cliffs of Dover eventually. I also have the Force Profiler, Force Sender, Video Plugin and Yoda 2 software. Ok, the Video Plugin does not seem to be necessary for a functioning cockpit?

If I may ask, what is the idea / how do things fit together?

Am I correct in saying that you have the IL2 software which generates certain information like position / orientation and gauge readings? We then need to extract these readings to hardware gauges, motion platforms etc. What software extracts the readings. I’ve seen a plugin with such items as Roll:0 Pitch:0 Turn:0 Speed:0 Vario:0 AngSpeed:0 Azimut:0 Slip:0 Airspeed:0 Altimeter:0 One problem is that I cannot get any of these values to change when I play the game. How to set this up? Then, if I could set this up how do I extract information to the Force Profiler?

Can anybody give me the Dummies version of how to set up X-sim please?

    Thanks bsft,

but I am not sure how to read this file. I download a zip file from filehosting.org, which after unzipping gives me a folder with a few (thirteen) html files and a few (six) pictures (jpg's and such).

I don't seem to be able to open anything useful in either internet explorer or word. Am I missing something or am I just stupid?

Simply rename it to .docx instead of .zip and it opens nicely in Word.
bsft: probably prudent to upload a version with the right ending ;)

    Thanks bsft and value1,

I think one of my problems is that my copy of IL2 does not seem to have DeviceLink in the install folder. I keep reading on various forums about reading the DeviceLink.txt file, but it is not installed under my game folder...? i.e. search for DeviceLink.txt under C:\Program Files\Ubi Soft\IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles yields no results. I wonder whether DeviceLink was only distributed with some copies of IL2.

or is there a patch one can load to get DeviceLink?

So, I bought a newer version of IL2 today, 1946 (Sturmoviks over Manchuria and 46), installed it... It installed DeviceLink, started Force Sender and Force Profiler and guess what... the game started sending values to the Force Sender and Profiler

Now I need to figure out how to get those values out of the computer (through a serial port or something) and into a radio controlled servo :?

The plan is to move a few servos in the same way I would want to move bigger motors just to see that I can get signal and positioning right. I also want to use servos to build flight instruments.

Anyway, I am so glad that I’ve got something to work. I think my next post will be under a different topic.
Feels like I’ve taken the first step of what seems to be a titanic journey.

Hi all, I am a new member from Australia and am very impressed with the information I have gained from this forum/website. I am interested in car simulators and am looking to make a DIY motion simulator for my home made sim rig. I use Race07 and rFactor, I am also fiddling with microsoft Flight sim X and could try to make the 2dof motion simulator work with that (anyone know if this works?)
Anyway G'day everyone pleased to be on board.

Yes you could make a 2DOF to do race and flight. It might mean longer levers on the motors for flight and shorter for race.

    Hello to all
Kevin I'm 41 years old and I live in Italy
Already for some time wanted to build me a driving simulator but I had no idea how to make assignable .... then a few days ago you opened a door googlando I came across this forum and finally reading and rereading now I got an idea of how to implement my project and if I can, and only thanks to you and to the community!

Only one thing I have to say about the rest and everything ok ..... and fantastic that I have indeed found

For newcomers who do not speak English so they have difficulty in translating some posts anddrebbero revised .....

Let me explain: should any of us who finished a project should put pictures and diagrams measures the prices of materials speak of a tutorial step by step throughout the first post in the main because of who and novice .... because between software and hardware settings etc. ... etc. .... for a novice to the impact and its pretty hard to understand ...... why I'm writing this to make life easier for new arrivals and how much they want to do, but mixing all these things together becomes Arabic. :?

There is absolutely no controversy but just an idea I

    regards kevin :hi:

Hello, found this site looking for a game chair for grandsons birthday. Now I think the sky maybe the limit.
I think he would enjoy learning how to do this along with me. :)
I am a soon to be retired machine repairman by trade, so I have some mechanical and machine shop
ability. But no electronic at all. Know some symbols on schematic, enough to get in trouble.
