Hi people, my name is Rune and I'm a "crazy-project-hobby-build-addict"
Arhh that felt good, getting that off my chest :D

I've been googling around for the last couple of years, trying to figure out how to manage this build. So it's not a new crazy fantasy of mine.... it's an old crazy fantasy.
I work as an mechanical engineer, designing and building mechanical stuff for the medical industry.
So what I do have is: Material understanding, CAD capabilities, a workshop made in heaven, and a wicket creative side, all together meaning that I usually start a new project before the first one is finished.
That's where I imagine you guys comes in the picture, when I reach the wall, this seems like the place to get the right answers.
Spending the last couple of nights starring at numerous posts in here, each an everyone more outrageous (in a good way) than the last I've read, I decided that if you can do it - so can I.
My Problem have never been the actual build, but rather the interface, data output, dat input, coding, and so on. Then a couple of weeks ago, I brought home some Arduino stuff from work, and have tried different things, controlling stuff with other stuff. I think i get it :)
Right now, just to be different and a rebellion, I think I'm gonna go with hydraulics. I do have some experience in the field, and the safety issue is something I can surly comprehend. The positives of hydraulics is the insane force, with nearly no power consumption from the controller.
Then again, I'm not sure. I've ordered a bunch of servos to make a scale model as prove of concept.
I'm really exited to try the SimTools, and see what that's all about.
Best regards, I really enjoy all your crazy project shares, keep up the good work.

    Hello all!

I am contemplating building a motion simulator in the new year. Last year I finished building my OSW (Open Sim Wheel) and modifying my Fanatec F1 rim to use with it. Starting to get bored and now it feels like it is time to do motion.

Going to spend some of my holiday time reading so I can start planning and pricing things out to see where I am going.

Thanks to everyone for sharing all their knowledge!

    Hello to you all!

My name is DopeBean and i am planning on building a 2DOF F1simulator. I am looking on this site now for 2 years. I already started with the electronics and thats finished now. I use jrk's and soon i am going to modify an electric carjack to see if thats any good for using as linear actuator. After that I will make an alumium frame etc.

I will keep you up to date and hopefully i will see you guys on the (virtual)circuits!

    G'Day everyone

I'm new here, my first time after just finding this amazing site with home made gear, just what I'm in to (because I can't afford to buy the stuff I want).
I live in Lithgow, NSW, Australia, about 40 minutes east of Mount Panorama (Bathurst) .

I'm about 9/10ths of the way through building my own sim racing set up, nothing fancy but it will be better than my son driving with his Thrustmaster TX wheel attached to the computer table (near shakes the poor table to death).
I purchased the Thrustmaster PRO pedal set and shifter for my son for Christmas and needed a platform for him to get the use out of it.

I went with 1" square hollow section for my frame and have an SAAS racing bucket seat. The biggest part was modifying my 12 ton workshop press to bend 90 degree corners with a mild radius. That took me months and a few trial and error runs just to get the press doing bends I could replicate, a real pain in the you know what. Eventually got it all together and have all my frame bends and welds done. Just have to mount the aluminium checker floor plate and come up with some system for making both height of pedals (slope) and slide arrangement though the adjustment for slide isn't overly important, it's only for my son and I and the seat slides.

The seat frame itself weighs near 8 kilograms without the seat so the rig won't be light. It fell off my welding table and smacked me in the head about 2 weeks ago (while I bent to pick up a clamp) and now my doctor said I may or may not have a fractured skull. He said to wait and see if the swelling goes down and also, if there's a fracture I'll have worsening headaches, Guess what I've had every day since the thing attacked me...............

    Hi guys I am new

I am a software developer, electronics engineer and work in automotive.

I know nothing about simulators but hope to learn a lot.

My son races karts and i have built him a driving seat based on a kart chassis

    I have 6 hydraulic actuators

I need to built a platform for the kart and work out how to hook it all up

    I need a hydraulic pump
Some software to simulate the track
Some way to build kart tracks
Some way to interface the software to the hydraulic actuators

Should i be using electric actuators instead ?

What sim software do u recommend

I have been browsing the site and some great rigs on here

P.s i have a moog controller that could be wired up to the actuators

    Regards

Hi guy, sorry for ma bad english, i'm a new french user of simtools.
I have a metal cockpit since five years with G25, and i project to upgrade it with motors to a 2dof. I have already use X-sim with arduino to plug a real dashboard, but i would like to test simtools for its
    simplicity.

    Welcome @BruceBoc.

Once you grasp the basics SimTools is pretty easy to use and is highly responsive. Better still, there is a very active community here and the members give freely of both their time and expertise.

You will find the FAQ section covers many detailed build related topics, including code to use your Arduino with GameDash or for your own simulator: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/

When you are ready please start your own project thread here: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/

    Good luck with your project.

    Hi All,

Just to introduce myself I am Joe from UK and I have been searching here for a few hours. I am looking for info how to build a race simulator. I know it will take a lot of time and practice but I am just looking for some projects at the moment. I will start very slowly due my work and family so my progress will be very slow :( but hope some day I will build some simulator. Guys, reading about your projects is very interesting and still thinking if I can used some parts which I have at home already, but I am living in the flat so there is problem with DIY and limited space, hmm.
Anyway thank you for this forum and this website I found so many interesting post already.

    Happy New Year Joe

    @bientot

Hello everyone I alias icefox thirty two years I live in France and I am member of a forum that call pcshm,
After building a wooden Playseat I am doing a dynamic kind 2DOF steel with 24V engines, I'll post pictures later when I would have my new pc.
