    Welcome @LibranRabbit.

You have come to the right place, there is a really active community here who freely give of their time and expertise. There is also a pretty large contingent of fellow Aussies!

You will find plenty to get you started in the FAQs, from design software, dimension of sims, to PSUs, pots, motors, JRKs, Arduinos and Motor Monsters and more: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/

If something sounds odd then look it up in the glossary: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/glossary-of-acronyms-and-names.66/

When you are ready please start your own project thread here: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/

    Good luck with your project.

I guess I gotta start somewhere. Hi my name is Ron and I live in the Seattle area. I'm currently building a wind simulator and was directed to this site to D\L simtools. What an incredible amount of information. Kinda makes me think I should consider building a motion cockpit.

    Welcome @RacinWally

There is indeed a great deal of information available here that makes building your own motion simulator possible, backed by a ver active community who give freely of their time and expertise.

When you are ready please start your own project thread: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/

Good luck with your project, whatever that turns out to be.

Hey all, Thomas here. I'm just finishing my semi-custom 8020 build (can't post links yet, but it's on the ISRTV forums search for 'Building the SuperSport Evolution' if anyone's interested) and gosh darn it I had to run across a rear traction loss only build. Between my own 'it's never good enough' personality and some prodding from my 'I don't have my own rig so let's make yours awesome' friend, I'm looking to head down that road.

Even if I had the funds (which I don't this soon after my initial build) I'm not looking to invest an off-the-shelf solution. According to the designer of my rig, I need "pivot on the front, and casters underneath, plus a DC motor with a 4" arm". Ha! Sounds so easy. I need to do a lot of digging through projects to translate that into my own build.

Most projects I see thus far are more complex, so I'll likely need some help teasing out just the relevant traction loss parts. FAQ #174 here I come!

    Welcome @paredaks.

The FAQs are a good place to start for information and there is a traction loss section, which will save you some time hunting through threads: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/traction-loss.174/

If something sounds odd then look it up in the glossary: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/glossary-of-acronyms-and-names.66/

When you are ready please start your own project thread here: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/

You can't yet post an active link but you can do something like google dot com to show your current build stage, or re-post the details on your own build thread here

    Good luck with your project.

Thanks @noorbeast . I was happily working my way through the rear traction loss FAQ, when a chance conversation with @Nick Moxley it was suggested that with my rig I could pull off a compact seat mover and get some motion too. Grrr, now there's that rabbit hole too!

Actually it sounds fantastic. I'm in the middle of your own DX Racer - Compact Simulator thread, but the photos alone make me think it's viable.

So now I've got two pieces to work out. I'll do some more reading then start up a thread.

Here's the current'ish state of the rig - needs some final painting but fundamentally built.

    Hi all,

My name is Nicolas and I live in France. I'm very interested in building my own motion sim as I play many race simulation games like IRacing, RFactor, GTR, Project Cars, Assetto corsa...

On the other hand, I would like to work with young students on a motion simulator dedicated to road safety training and education. The idea is to build a low cost simulator that could be replicated by other schools or university in order to sensitize youth to road safety.

I think that this site is the perfect place for us to get all the information we need to develop a low cost 2DOF/3DOF motion simulator for that purpose.

We would like to use an open source driving simulator that has been developed for research, industry and training by DFKI (German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence). This software is OpenDS https://www.opends.eu/home which proposes a free version.

However we will need a simtool plugin for that software...I'll post a request in the corresponding thread for that. It could be great to see simtools used for other applications than pure entertainment.

    Thank you @noorbeast.

In fact, I have two projects :

One for myself just for pure entertainment at home.

The second is with students. The goal is to allow them to practice and design their own motion sim for road safety purposes. There's nothing commercial behind this project, just a last year student project.
