We have 100 down 20 up available here but I have not yet convinced my wife that we need it, lol. :D

They are also starting to bring up 1gb connections as well. So far only in certain major cities but hopefully in the near future everywhere.

high speed net at least 3-4 years away for me, so 16 down and 0.6 up is it unless I pay a hell of a lot more, and thats in Sydney.
Historiker, rural areas in Australia are even lucky to have internet, wireless or wired.
Mind you, then again, here in this country, high speed internet is politically based, so depending on the seat area, depends on whom gets the net. if I move 2 suburbs north , south east or west, I can have high speed net in a year. Not planning to move house for the sake of a faster net.

Very very true! it is such a disappointing situation... i lived in California for a year back in 2000 and even then i had unlimited con and it was $9.95 a month!!! now race forward nearly 14 years later back in Australia and Bam! im using a 4g con and it makes me remember how far behind we are.

Without getting too much off tangent of original post, now we have a liberal government, goodness know what Abbot the rabbithead is going to do with the broadband network, maybe delay it another century or two.

Thankyou for condolences. I am at the moment trying to build my own satellite with a piece of string and 2 soup tins attached:) :highfive: hopefully will be able to live out my dream :highfive: of racing sims for a career!

The satelite approach looks like next century technologie, something i could impress my friends with:) Feel free to open a separate topic with details about it. I bet people are interested in it. (mhh would you mind if i open a separate forum here for projects in general?)

Hmm....I can foresee a problem there eightbit....the mechanical force necessary to swing the can at the far end into orbit might be a tad much for the common fishing pole....have you though about a swimming pool spring board? :D

lol, you guys kill me. :D

    You're right : big effort !!
Maybe a high enough torque device would be fine ?
Something like ... a Space shuttle windscreen wiper motor !!

I think for country areas on Australia an aboriginal bullroarer would be faster in communication than the available internet.

    Hi there,

my name is Mario, i live in the middle of germany. The idea to built a motionrig by myself comes up 1,5 years ago. But now its time !
I read many many forums and look much videos to get it all clear. But i was getting a little confused cuz there is so much difference between that motionrigs, electronics, akuators..

I think learning by doing is the best way to get it, so i will start in the next week.
I want to build a thanos like rig, i think its not to hard for a beginner like me.

Can someone tell me where i can find a Layout for that PCB that Thanos used ? If someone interrested (and there is a layout out there) i can make some more cheap
ready to go PCB`s for other people in this forum who needs. I can make good PCB´s but im not good in electronics so far... there i need some help or a connecting plan.

    whatever, i`ll try my best.

    c u soon, best wishes..

    Mario

    Hi Mario! Welcome to XSimulator.net!

I know you mentioned that you want to build Thano's controller but have you thought about off the shelf products?

JRKs are off the shelf 12v solutions but a bit pricey at 99.00USD per motor. But they are controller and motor driver in one. Hard to beat for a plug and play solution.

Arduino UNO is off the shelf and pretty easy to setup (with help but lots of that here) but requires motor drivers (but so does Thano's controller). I am using the Arduino with two inexpensive (40.00 USD each) Pololu 755 motor drivers. RacingMat was kind enough to provide a Sketch but Prilad also has provided a sketch that works with the Ardiuno.

Earobbie is also working on another off the shelf controller called the Kangaroo which has a wealth of added features but that too requires motor drivers.

If you really want to have a DIY controller check out the SimAxe project here in the forums. Fast, lots of features and completely adjustable.

Let me know if you have an interest and I will find the links for you (sorry only have a minute to respond right now).

    Hope this helps!

wow, that was fast. Thanks for the reply :)
I have an Arduino Uno here at home, (want to learn the programming, but give up cuz of to much work).

JRK sounds interesting, i `ll have a look. Does it work with wipermotors ?
I got some good 24V steppermotors here (from Coca-Cola vendingmachines) but i think they are to slow, or maybe only for Flightsims.

Are wipermotors from trucks or busses better than from cars ?

sorry for my english, i have no idea about the grammar..

    - Sim Axe seems to be very very nice.. but, which motordriver works with it ?

I have no experience with actually using wiper motors on my platform, but I did buy a couple and and played around with them for a bit. I found that for my application they were far too weak (I am a big guy and have a full sled to move rather than just a seat). If you only want to move the seat they work very well for some people. I am told that truck wiper motors are larger with more torque though. Mine were from a passenger car. (Ein kleines Auto)

I am using winch motors rated to move 2000lbs (dragging on a flat surface). They are noisy but do move my large.....er....butt around very well, lol. They are 12v also.

The Arduino UNO/Pololu755 combo does work with 24v but you have to make sure the voltage does not go over 24v (so large batteries are out but a 24v switching power supply is good).

I am not sure how stepper motors would be connected, most motor controllers only have DC connections (+ and -). Not sure myself how you could connect a stepper driver up to a motor controller. I have a CNC table which I built myself. My stepper driver uses a parallel port. I bet someone here has experience though. The JRKs only work with 6v-16v.
