Hi all, I'm Craig and I've been sim racing for many years but have only fairly recently got into motion. I've been playing around with some arduinos and mini servos to get the basic concepts and am considering trying my hand at making a 2 DOF with wiper motors. Some great ideas on this forum!

    Welcome @Craig Bartlett.

Experimenting small is a great place to start :thumbs

You will find plenty of helpful information in the FAQs, in particular check out the SimTools, fundamentals of motion and the design sections, plus the Arduino section for the required code: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/

Keep in mind wiper motors need ground isolation: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/wiper-motor-mandatory-ground-isolation.25/

Wiper motors are not very powerful, so you need a rig design with plenty of inherent design leverage, have a play with SimCalc to see the trade offs between design, physics and performance: https://www.xsimulator.net/communit...e-linear-speed-and-forces-of-your-design.270/

If something sounds odd then look it up in the glossary: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/glossary-of-acronyms-and-names.66/

When you are ready please start your own project thread here, ask any questions you have there and detail your project progress: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/

    Good luck with your project.

    Hi All,

I'm in New Zealand and found this site when looking for help on my OSW (small mige and Simucube 1) and now SFX-100 build. I have my rig (self welded aluminium frame with direct mount 34" monitor and moving rails for pedals and seat) working as a static system and have most parts to complete the motion, just a 1000 hours of printing and ordering the remaining 3 motors and then I can get those assembled. Doing a slight custom actuator with different motors (80ST instead of 90ST) and designed my own version of the motor mounts. Will also be using the Thanos controller along with Simtools.

Can do a build thread if people are interested as I have been taking some photo's as I go.

Good to see some clear rules in this forum so I'm sure I will get good advice and friendly interactions.

    Regards,
    Andrew

    G'day All
I found this site after seeing the 6Dof build by Peacemaker105 on Youtube , was really impressed. So jumped straight in and ordered a AMC-AASD15A servo controller from Thanos , as the control/programming side of things had kept me from atempting a build for quite a few years, Work Maintenance for a Factory and have Good Mechanical/Welding Skills as well as access to a machine shop , and also collecting Pinball machines (19 but may have to sell 1 to fund the build) for over 20 years mean I have a reasonable Idea with electronic repairs and wiring , Also have been into 3d printing for the last 12 months.
Must say the shear amount of information posted here is incredible have been lurking for nearly a month and have changed my mind on designs at least 5 times. Am planning on building a 6DOF 60% flight sim, 40% racing rig.
    Cheers
    Darren

Hello, friends! My name is Dmitry, I am from Russia. Found your forum on the youtube link. I am very glad that such a developed forum exists. Unfortunately machine translation is the only way for me to communicate, so I apologize if my speech doesn't sound very good.
My friends have a small airfield where we sometimes fly in small aircraft. There are even aircraft technicians among us who build homemade aircraft.
I want to build a 6-DOF VR flight simulator platform for our airfield. I am carefully studying the information and am very glad that there is a lot of it here :)
Thanks to all the participants for their work and generosity!

    Hi there from Western Sydney!

I stumbled in here after what could turn out to be an expensive Google search.
For years my gaming chair has been an old car seat mounted on a bunch of pine 4x2 with removable throttle and joystick platforms. I've been learning joinery to replace the base with something more resembling furniture, but I'm glad I've had little time for it because my needs keep changing.
I picked up a decent FFB steering wheel cheaply from someone who had buyer's remorse. (One of the better side effects of this pandemic.) Since then I've bought a matching shifter and LCM pedals. I've already got VR so motion is the logical next step.
God help me, where does this hobby end?
Anyway, nice to meet you all!
    -Lemming.

It is a potentially deep and expensive rabbit hole @Lemming, but motion and VR compliment each other so well, and when combined with haptics and quality peripherals results in the most immersive gaming experience currently possible at home.

On the flip side it is amazing how much you can get out of cheap well thought out system and rig, you can even enjoy a rig as you build it up...with my 80yo fathers rig I started with haptics (rumble motors and transducer), am currently adding a motion driven harness and will eventually finish it off as a pneumatic G-Seat, the parts are already there, I have just not had the time yet, but nonetheless dad enjoys his daily VR simulation on his very own rig.

Doing some research first is time well spent, it will save you time, money and frustration!

Hey everyone! I’m Chris from Toronto, Canada.
Just finishing my first build (4DOF opensfx setup). Had a tonne of fun doing this build. Bought and learned all about 3DPrinting and tuning/calibration and some cad work. Really fun.
Grabbed an AASD board from Thanos and been having fun tuning all the settings.
I’m a big iRacing fan and in my spare time i like to play guitar (working on a solid collection) and KiteSurf as much as possible!

Hope everyone is well and thanks for building such a great community. Long time lurker but created an account just now to say hi.

    all the best,
