    Hello,
My name is Rainer and I come from Germany. I've been on home DOF simulators years ago and never really dared to range. It always stayed with the FFB steering wheel, now I want to finally build a dof, it works.

Hello all. My Name is Chuck and I’m near Chicago Illinois in the suburbs. Just found this resource and I have a lot of reading to do. I’ve had a VR headset for about a year and now I want to build a motion sim for some racing games and maybe even some Flight Sim.

Not sure which direction I want to take but I’m leaning g toward a 2dof to start and maybe upgrade from there. Lots to learn and I hope to find a nice solution that’s already been refined to save a lot of trial and error. Looking forward to learning some new skills. Thanks for any feedback along the way.

    Welcome @ChuckyP.

A 2DOF is a great first project, one that is surprisingly effective when combined with VR.

There is also a lot to get your head around, so doing plenty of research before diving in too deep is a really good idea, as it costs nothing.

There is a wealth of information in the threads and FAQs: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/

You can go through existing member projects for specific ideas or inspiration: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/

Once you see something you like search for all of the specific types of related projects using the Google Custom Search function on the Recent page: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/find-new/posts?recent=1

If something sounds odd then look it up in the glossary: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/glossary-of-acronyms-and-names.66/

    Hi all,

New here - I bought a DOFReality M2 at start of August and got it 4 weeks later, but not been able to use it (nearly a month now it's gathering more dust than my vacuum) as the frame is not square and the Arduino board failed. So I'm waiting on the new parts from DOF, in the mean time I thought I would join here and look at the amazing rigs people have DIY'd.

    All the best
    Charlie

    Welcome @CharlieLima.

We have plenty of inspirational DIY rigs: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/

    And related DIY peripherals: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-peripherals.32/

But commercial rigs and peripherals also have their own thread section: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/commercial-simulators-and-peripherie.52/

Which includes a dedicated and extensive DOFreality thread: https://www.xsimulator.net/communit...-3dof-6dof-motion-simulator-dof-reality.8570/

So there is plenty to explore and learn while you wait for parts.

If you want you can even grab the simulated simulator, download the demo version of SimTools to have a play: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/simulate-a-simulator.350/

That way you can learn how to refine motion profiles: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/steps-to-create-a-motion-profile.228/

Also grab a copy of the SimTools manual and keep it handy for reference: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/rtfm-start-with-the-official-simtools-documentation.117/

Please do start a thread in the commercial section and post about your rig, and post any questions you may have on it.

Hi! My name is Rodrigo and I'm currently living in the US but I am from Venezuela.

I have always been fascinated by motion simulators, but never really had the money or the experience to build one.

Looking forward to learning tons in here and hopefully add value to the group

    Cheers!

    Hi,
My name is Peter, I am in Sydney Australia. I have a YAW VR and a oculus quest. I am interested in getting VR driving motion simulation for children ages 3 to 10 years old

    Welcome @Kazpet.

Another fellow Aussie joins our ranks!

VR can potentially have some implications for very young children, both physiologically and psychologically, so be mindful of those, particularly around obvious stuff like children having small IPD.

I am guessing you have some specific form of rig for children in mind. If so then you will find plenty of helpful information in the FAQs, in particular check out the SimTools, fundamentals of motion and the design sections: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/

You can go through existing member projects for specific ideas or inspiration: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/

If something sounds odd then look it up in the glossary: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/glossary-of-acronyms-and-names.66/

When you are ready please start your own project thread here for a DIY rig, ask any questions you have there and detail your project progress: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/

You can also start a thread in the Commercial section and show off your YAW VR setup: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/commercial-simulators-and-peripherie.52/

    Good luck with your project.
