Hello, just joined and trying to work everything out (both making a motion sim and navigating the forum), so just a first post to say hi!

I tried a simkit 3dof simulator at the geekfest salon in Lyon earlier this year and it was just amazing. I just wanted to make one myself. Limited on time money and knowledge but I wanna do this anyway.

I have just this morning ordered an Arduino uno, three IBT2 controllers and some cheap 10kohm potentiometers.

Next I am trying to source some cheap windscreen wiper motors just to get going on a budget but will upgrade to something a bit stronger once I start to get things established. And I am looking into 12V power sources.

The plan is to start to hook these things up and see if I can get some kind of basic prototype working. That should keep me busy for a while. Once I can have something moving, then I will start to spend a little more.

I have been quite inspired by Dmax's youtube videos (thanks) so am kind of copying his design. 2dof plus traction loss. I sim race a bit (not very good yet but practicing when I can), mostly on Iracing (skip barber and Mazdas) and also on assetto corsa. I have an Oculus rift S, which runs ok off my laptop's RTX 2070 and gives adequate image quality, enough to have fun! Using the classic Logitech G27 setup, with a homemade eraser in the brake pedal to stiffen it a little.

Once the prototype is working, I plan to get a basic flux welding setup (I've always wanted to learn how to weld) and start to build the frames (bottom middle and top) from steel tubing, add stronger motors, and move to contactless hall effect potentiometers.

Also, I'd like to upgrade to the graphics card in my desktop (and ditch the laptop) at some point and add a cheapish direct drive wheel and load cell brake pedal setup.

The forum is amazing, I have learned so much already and having this knowledgebase has given me the confidence to start.

    The journey has begun...

    Good day

Mark from Ottawa, Canada. Just bought a used sfx150 to use with my sim racing stuff. Already need this site and likely others to find out why two actuators will not go down. Greetings. Mark

Hello everyone! I'm from the US and I've lurked on here for years gathering information and ideas. I finally started my own motion simulator and decided to post about my build process.

    Hello everyone,

My name is Levente, from Hungary.
Ive been reading the forum for 5 days ago, and i become really interested to build an own simulator for myself.
Im a mechanical engineer, and i have a few knowledge in manufacturing eg: welding late or milling etc, but Im lack of informatics. :sos
Iv been already creating some basic, real basic, arduino projects for myself, but anything complex, so it would be a great occasion to expand the boundaries.
Im not a big simulator guy, even didnt play so much with computer games, because never gave me the feeling that im in the game or anything. But i always were interested with car games, and always wanted to try and play some realistic stuff.
So now im decided to give it a try, lets see what can i do for myself. :) To be honest im afraid a bit, cos this project could be super addictive for me, because i build it for myself, and in mechanical producing i have a wide range of opportunities, and ambitions. Im doing my hobby as work actually.
The way i found this forum is that i were TikToking on one evening, and a i found a video. In the description of it, I found a link for the forum, and started to look around here. I think it become a 5 hour readnig between the posts, so i become super excited.
The site is a bit new for me, i have never registrated to a forin language forum, even i didnt use forum since i finished my secondary school, so it is a big step for myself.
i started to read FAQ and the glossary, and a few topics.

About the sim type I become interested in, is a 4 "leg" sim, which have 4 motors with a threaded linear motion. (Im not sure, but this is a 3DOF type of sim, am I right? :blush)
I would do it step by step. I think is the mechanical building is not gona be a problem for myself, unlikely the electronics and software. So now im starting in shoe box sized mini project. Today i ordered 4 mini stepper motor with screw mechanism (like the flopy reader has) and a 4 axis stepper driver rig and a few stepper driver with DRV8825 and A4988, and an UNO.

My newbie question would be about the habits on this forum: if i starting my projects with results and photos etc, should i start a new conversation in the DIY motion simulator projects topic, or better to find an already existing conversation in the theme, and ask there, if i would ask help, or guidance to the actual problem that i would solve?

So hello everyone, im arrived, and thank you the opportunity to be here! So on, thank you for all the people who made this community and keeping alive, and the old members who posted its own result and whole projects.

    Hey,

After many years of drooling at the prospect of having a motion rig, I finally had the go ahead to make/get one.

Primarily flight simming for me more than racing, in DCS and others, but some racing too

At first I was opting for the Dof Reality H/P3 - the H/P6 being a bit over budget, but just yesterday discovered the existence of the SFX 100 - and now SFX 150 model options. There were a few things putting me off the DOFs, plus I'm more of a "tinkerer" than a home DIY person as such and there was something about the DOFs need to custom mod quite a few bits that put me off when

These seem perfect for me as a) I'm a bit of a fatty and close to DOF limits on the H sets, and b) love the chunky 80s esque betamax square extrustion frame styles that some of them have. This idea sounds great as could easy create some hot swap plates of some sort to switch hotas/yokes/wheels at will

It's a bit of a daunting task finding the exact starting point I need to get my first steps done on the SFX path (or a couple of similar piston based models I've seen on here), theres that other site specifically for the sfx (dont know if I can mention it in here but looks to be closed to new members) but looking forward to getting that eureka starting point where I can look at ordering my first bits!

Hi, I'm Tiago Dias I live in Portugal and I just bought a njmotion compact-r being a 2dof I'm having some difficulties in how to configure it, being a 2 dof I can only assign in the tab 1 dof and 2 dof what I want to replicate in the simulator ? something like these questions that are making me confused, I need tutorials to learn, I like to tinker with settings and get to a point that I like just like I did with FFB simucube settings for example

Hi everyone, I have been randomly reading stuff without registering many times here and there in past years. Now finally made an account.

I have made a static / foldable under couch mini wheel/pedal/sest stand system years ago and now I plan to make it dance

    - Or build a completely new rig.

Anyways. I am from Finland and happy to be here surrounded with all great info and projects.

    Hello everyone,

I'm Yentl, a Dutch woman and game addict. I made living as international truck driver but I got fired. I bought ETS2 and ATS couple of years ago and started sim stuff. Bought project cars 2 a couple of years later, and my first sim wheel base was bought soon after. Then a second hand of another brand was acquired. For modding purposes only. But everything was put on hold.

And now I want to build myself 2 dedicated sims. In my extensive search of how to's I ended up here. So I'm here for sniffing and asking and reading only most of the time

Hi everyone... I'm a new member too...... I'm writing from Italy... I'm a coachbuilder with a passion for simulation... I already have my own triple screen workstation... and I'm always perfecting it with new things built by me ... lately I'm curious about the 2dof .... but looking at several videos on youtube I'm not satisfied with the movement it creates ... I'd be interested in being able to reproduce only the acceleration movement ... and braking ... but in a linear way on a sled...it would be enough for me to simulate only that...does anyone know any project about it ? Thank you all

Do check out the FAQs, keeping in mind that a surge axis is one approach and may be complimented or replaced by others, such as a telemetry driven race harness, as that is not constrained by limitation of axis movement: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/
