    Hi all.

I'm at the tail end of a 3DOF (traction loss) build. I have just joined this community. So awesome to have found you guys. The resources and willingness of experienced folks who post help and technical data/information for motion platform DIYérs, is amazing. Big thumbs up to all of you. Will get more involved with specifics of my build etc in the coming weeks. I have lots of video and pics of my build if this will help others. Just need to get familiar with this forum and how it all works. Thanks again and for now, it's back to the FAQ. Cheers from OZ.

    Hi everyone!
I'm a new member from Namibia.
Recently, I decided to build a sim steering wheel for my boys and that's how I ended up here.

I don't know much about electronics, but I've learned a lot over the past week.
The community seems helpful and I'm looking forward to it!

    Cheers- Helmuth

    Hello,

Retired a few years ago. I've always considered myself an avid car guy, so I thought I might finally build that Factory Five Racing kit car I've been wanting for years. But then I looked at the budget and decided there simply wasn't enough in the till to make that happen.

Soooo... in the course of some recent Googling, I came across a few sim racing sites. "Well, this looks interesting", said I. That was a few months ago. And, as other members have intimated, I began watching Dave's (@Halloween2go) YouTube channel. His work convinced me that, even though I have no fabrication experience, I just might be able to build a simulator of my own. So I've recently purchased a flux core welder and intend to learn to weld the thing together myself. And of course, Dave's site also pointed me here.

This site certainly is a fire hose! I've been lurking about a month, then I decided it was time to join up and contribute.

My plans are to start by designing a 4DOF rig in FreeCAD -- seat mover plus surge and sway. Then I'll probably mock the frame up in 1" wood to avoid any surprises before spending serious money on mild steel. And in the true "Dave spirit", I expect I'll be using crab pot motors.

See you all in the forums,
    OldFiat

p.s. While my avatar picture is someone else's recent restoration, OldFiat was the first car I owned, an old gray Fiat 1100/103 Familiare. Loved that car. Its oil pan gasket blew out on the freeway coming home for Spring Break, lost a main bearing. My dad and I pulled the engine, tore it apart, and replaced the bearing, but we never got the timing right after the rebuild. I still miss her.

Hello old fart. Dave’s videos are great for getting the creative juices flowing. Learning metal fabrication will never be a waste of time. The doors it opens for ongoing projects, is one of its many features. The tools required to make it happen these days, can be found pretty damn cheap. Gasless mig wire also simplifies things in the welding department. I’m about the release PT 1 of a series of very detailed in depth how to’s on how to build my 3DOF motion rig which like many of the builds here, has its own features. It would be a very good source of learning for any newcomers working with metal and building a motion rig. I’m also an owner and builder of classic muscle cars. Many of my skill sets including building engines, transmissions, metal working, automotive wiring etc, were honed in this realm. Keep an eye out for the first video release in the coming days. Cheers from Oz.
