    Hey all

I'm Scott. I'm new to the world of motion, having just built a Prosimu 3M SV. I have dreams of opening a small simcade in my little, car-centric college town, so I'm trying to acquire as much knowledge as possible as quickly as possible. Needless to say, it's been a painful experience and I'm already pulling out what little hair I have trying to figure out how all this works.

Anyways, I'm sure you'll all be hearing lots from me as I ask, complain, and chatter my way through the learning process. Thanks to everyone who's built this community, it looks to be a very valuable resource.

    Cheers,

    Scott

    My Motion Simulator:
    Motion platform
    here, Benoit,
of Belgium, region of Ciney, in the province of Namur.

47 years old, since very young on rallies, and since I was 16 I have been going to the circuits, spa Francorchamps the most.
After driving in Rally, on propulsion, Opel Manta.
I ended up organizing provincial rally events, participated in the National Rally of Wallonia organization, to join the circuit of Mettet in the organization of the world championship of Rallye-cross, and superbiker.
this allowed me to meet the biggest, but very nice driver, Block, bakkerud, Solberg, loeb, etc..., much cooler than those of the rally and circuit world.

discovering the game Dirt in lydden hill in England, my friend from the world championship accompanied me to the developer codemaster, and we at the time insisted that the Belgian circuit of Mettet be taken over in the future. what a pleasure to see that this has come true, and very very faithful to reality. ps: (this year 2023, the wrx returns to Mettet after two not great years at Francorchamps).

Otherwise, I mainly work in bodywork, it helps when it comes to my passion and my passion. my favorite phrase being, "to know your limits, you have to go beyond them".

on this, I like to weld, so I made my own structure, simulator, fully adjustable, for adults and children.
all equipped for my little ps4, = thrustmaster trs300, inverted T3PA-pro crankset, THA8A gearbox, Thrustmaster TSS Sparco Mod+ handbrake. but simply in front of the tv 47":(

It's been a while since I played, I keep buying the games, but don't play them anymore. especially due to my back which hurts me in Bacquet.
put 15 days ago, at the 24h of Francorchamps, at pirelli, I tested a fanatec..... since then, I keep looking to invest in a new kit, wheel, steering wheel, etc..., but the more I search and watch reviews, videos, tutorials, and the more I am lost, not knowing what to buy!

I would like a wheel of at least 20 NM, so ideally Fanatec DD2, but I discover many other brands on the internet, simucube, etc..

I am happy to have come across this site, forum, and hope to find answers, ideas, tips, fitters, manufacturers, sellers..

    But, if someone can help me in my research, advise me, wheel, steering wheel (of rally or gt type preferences), gearbox, brakes, etc... I would be very happy;

thank you all, and long live the new technologies.

    Welcome @Metnik.

Spending some time doing research will help you narrow down your project ideas.

Bounce your plans and shopping list off members before jumping down what can be an expensive rabbit hole, if you get it wrong.

Use the Enhanced Google Search on the Recent page to find the type of member project that interest you.

You will also find plenty of helpful information in the FAQs to get you started: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/

If something sounds odd then look it up in the glossary: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/glossary-of-acronyms-and-names.66/

When you are ready please start your own project thread here, ask any questions you have there and detail your project progress: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/

    Good luck with your project.

    G,Day folks,

    Mick here from Melbourne Australia.
First time wanting to build something in the form of a motion rig.
Not a lot of knowledge on the subject yet, but I am pretty handy. I have most of the tools at my disposal currently so hopefully should have no problem with fabrication.
Need to get up to speed on the actual motion side more than anything as there seems to be a lot of options when it comes to motors/actuators and the pros and cons that come with them.

I initially would like something that doubles from a flight sim and a racing sim.
Currently own just a G920 set and TH8 as well as an X56 Hotas but will be upgrading the wheel etc as soon as i get something into play.

Such a plethora of info here and i already appreciate the contributions that the community has made to help make this possible for a lot of guys like myself who would like to venture into the world of motion sim.

    Cheers

    Mick

    Hi everyone.
    Newbie here. Oldman, almost, actually.....
It seems I'm going to finish (or I hope so, more than 10 years now....) my DCS Ka-50 cockpit.
Unfortunately, in those last 10 years many things are changed, first of all the "new" VR technology wich could make obsolete a physical cockpit. Nevertheless I'm going on with my project, and honestly I like the idea of physically see and handle real switches.
Next step will be the "motion" (and everything related), that's why I'm here; I found several good ideas to start planning this new adventure.
Well, we'll see what will happens....

    Cheers

    Welcome @Jocman.

Nothing wrong with old school cockpits, though you will have to decide what suits you when integrating that with motion.

Do check out the FAQs, in particular check out the SimTools, fundamentals of motion and the design sections: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/

Use the Enhanced Google Search on the Recent page to find relevant projects and inspiration.

Well, honestly I think I found what will suit me, I'm taking a good look to a motion seat (instead o f a platform): I can easily (I hope) integrate it in my cockpit, and, as I'd like to back to fly with flight simulator too, I think I can easily switch between the 2 sims.

BTW, I keep just looking for all infos I can need, as by now I aim to finish the cockpit (to long building time.....)

A G-Seat is a good option for a static cockpit, but please continue the discussion in a dedicated build thread of your own: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/gseat.20/category

    2DOF, DC motor, Arduino
    Hi all.

My name is Jeroen. I am new (few days) to Xsim.
There is a wealth of information on this site.
Me and a few of my colleagues are very interested in a DIY project with 2DOF.
Currently i'm cleaning out my gameroom to make space for the sim rig.
    Any streamers out here?

The idea is based of scruck's post.
I like the detailed shoppinglist he provided. Thanks @scruck

My goal is a complete motion rig, so meaning seat, pedals and wheel should move.
For monitor i am still doubting, because i also have a VR headset.

A few questions before i order any components:
What is the most used starter motor and will it be sufficient? Seeing the wheelchair motors alot, but also wormgear motors.
Would it be possible to use accelorometers in stead of hall angle sensors?

Maybe i'll just start by buying the Arduino and play around with it.

Also on the map i saw someone within like a 20m drive, so maybe i will try to contact him aswell.

    Best regards.

    Welcome @The_DutchLion_TTV.

Following in the footsteps of others is a good way to go, using known parts, sizes and code saves time and money and while things like accelerometers may work I would suggest you stick with proven Hall sensors unless your key objective is to blaze new paths, and you have the technical and coding skills needed.

Hello! I was directed here from the Motionsimbuilders facebook group after asking how to get my recently purchased motion simulator working. It is a custom fab system using SCN5 Actuators and the system had ancient versions of x-sim installed on the computer. I have no documentation on the build and I am trying to figure out what control software will work with the system. I will post pictures later today and I look forward to getting to know all you amazing peeps, cuz holy crap you guys are awesome in what you have created here.

    My name is Mike
Coming to you from Canada. I am an Electrician, Opto-Electronics Technologist and Industrial Instrumentation Specialist.
More summers behind than ahead LOVE two things, my wife and computer gaming. Not necessarily in that order, but definitely that order when she is within view or earshot!!!!
I have been fascinated with Simulators since the early 80s when I actually got to "fly" a 747 simulator at a company that made simulators for the industry and I happened to be there working on another ground based sim.
I got involved in flight sims when the first home computers came out. Warplane sims especially. Anyone remember F-19 Stealth fighter??. I used to go to arcades and played all the flight games they had there. Clunky single control FUN!!
Now I play DCS in VR and am looking forward to building my very first simulator! Nothing near the scale of that 747 but wouldn't that be COOL!!

Hi all. I'm just here to see what others do in building their own DIY rigs. At the moment i'm looking at the different seating arrangements, as i want to build a rig that can transition between F1 and GT style seating positions. I'm sure this forum will be a wealth of knowledge, so i'm very glad i found it.

    Thanks
