AH it does just needs to wired correctly and not plugged onto as the shield was intended, he uses a different pin out. Was the first driver I tested on it. Unless something has changed since I tested it, I do try and test them all, still nothing has come up to match the Jrk yet.

As Rob mentioned; you just have to wire it correctly.

Here is a diagram provided to me by Merchan-e who also uses Priliad's code:

Thank you to both of you for setting me straight. I'll give it another go tonight, hopefully I will have motion.

    Hello all,

I´m Daniel, from Portugal. Been into sim racing for a long time, since Indy 500 in the Amiga times (!!), but only now am I starting to think that maybe it is possible to build my own motion sim...I've been lurking here for some weeks, reading and learning, and, like many other noobs, I would like to thank all the experts here who contribute with their time, effort and knowledge to help us build our own sims. Many thanks to you all!

As for me, I have always preferred to build or make something, if possible, than buying it ready made. I'm curious about how things work, and making them teaches a lot more than just using them. I'm fairly handy with metal and wood works, and know a fair bit about mechanics in general and cars and bikes in particular. Unfortunately, electronics has always been my weak spot...that is where my main hurdles will likely be.

Thank you all for your help and dedication.

    DF

If electronics are the weak spot, use these http://www.pololu.com/product/1393/ , one per motors, 7 wires, one usb cable NO CODE TO WRITE, and they will run 14v at 30 amps continuous with heatsink and fan cooling.
Do you have a design in mind?

Thank you, that's a huge help.

    Just one more question..

Does the Moto monster shield need to get 5v and gnd from the Arduino also?

Hi everybody. I'm Carlos from TSS

This was my 2013 project with Arduino, Iracing and VBNET own program. (Gforce-s Long, Lat and Vertical. 2 microservos)

I hope to learn much with you.

    Cheers

@DDU : Yes, just connect the +5v and ground from the Arduino to the Monster Moto. Don't forget to connect your potentiometers to the Arduino ;)

    @bsft:
Thanks to your many posts, and to others, I know about the qualities of the JRKs, and it would be probably the best route for me. Cost was the only reason that makes me try to go with Arduino: I already have one, and could get another, plus two Moto_Monster shields, for less than a single JRK...I'll try with that, and if it doesn't work out, I will probably follow your good advice.

As for my first design, I will build a seat mover, using wiper motors and low amplitude, quick reaction movements. That's the plan, anyway. I was undecided, until I read your account of the seat mover with jrks and big motors, and decided that would be my first try. That, and the fact that I already have a static cockpit, built a few years back from scratch, so it is just a case of beefing up the seat mounting area and installing the seat on a CV joint off a halfshaft. Making a full-motion rig, moving pedals and wheel, would force me to rebuild the whole thing. I would probably build a new one. That's the plan for my second go...but there's a few hurdles yet.

I have already built a model platform, with RC servos, to test the whole system, but even that is not going smoothly...the SimTools GameEngine only talks to the Arduino for a few seconds before the serial connection freezes in the Tests. I'm using an old sketch by eaorobbie (another great contributor! @eaorobbie, if you're reading this, many thanks for all your help and knowledge). So, I still haven't managed to get the game data to move the platform. But I'm working on it, and will eventually get there. There's a few things to try, like trying a different computer, using the second Arduino (still in the mail), messing with the code, trying different servos, etc. I'll crack this nut yet!

The people in this forum got the motion bug into me. Knowing me, it will not go away easily...Thanks!

Got it all hooked up tonight on the bench and it works well. It was so easy, I almost feel guilty. But it was only easy because of the wiring help I got from you guys and especially Priliad's hard work in writing the code. So a big thank you to all :thumbs

Time to leave this thread to the new member introductions & start my own build thread soon.

    Greetings All,
I've been at x-sim.de for a couple of years. I've built a joyrider, and now I've got a new project under way! Pics are comming! I wanted to build a simulator that was more compact...something I could put in the house without moving the sofa out!! Keep you posted on all MOVEMENTS!

compact sim possible, just start a new thread as post up what you are after. And try not to get confused between x-sim software and Simtools . Simtools is better, hands down.

There is a second code further through my post on the rc servo model.
Serial errors are common with the Ard UNO even the R3, hence i dont use them for motion.

Look at the different code there , and lower the baud rate in code and simtools if usb port is unstable.
