    Hi!
New to the forums so think I should begin with a short introduction.
I´m Rainer, I live in Sweden and have been sim racing for around 5 years. I´m a rally guy so I race (almost) only RBR.
Till now I´ve been racing on an ugly a$$ static wood rig (see my avatar) with a g25 with inverted pedals, nixim brake mod, lengthened clutch lever (for increased travel) and 300mm Astrali wheel.
I´ve also done a small mod to the shifter for increased resistance. I think I´ve done just about everything possible to get the most out of the the G25 without spending an arm and a leg.
Other equipment are triple 19" screens run through SoftTH. A 2.1 logitech sound system and a buttkicker. Computer used is a quad core something  (don´t remember) I bought used.
Everything on my rig is made on a budget. I´m trying to keep the costs down as I have a house, wife and kid.
But now I´ve decided it´s time to step it up a notch and build a motion rig!
Of course this will blow my budget a little :think but I´ll get there somehow. Guess I´ll just buy some of the stuff needed now and get more later.
This forum is great and there seems to be a ton of knowledge and devoted people here :thumbs
so this will be a huge help!
Oh and if you don´t understand what I´m saying it´s because english is not my first language so I apologize for that. Feel free to ask what the h€ll I´m talking about! :grin

    Welcome @Rainer.

There is no problem at all with you English, you are clearer than some of us native speakers ;)

There are many options in building a motion sim, many of which have short or longer term budget implications. And you are spot on, there are many motion sim gurus here who give freely of both their time and expertise to help us mere mortals realize our dreams.

If you are focused on rally you probably want to consider a 2 or 3DOF sim, there are plenty of examples of both on the forums. Just check them out and start asking questions as they come to mind.

    My Motion Simulator:
    3DOF
Hi, so this seems to be the place to introduce myself - like many others (it would appear) I too stumbled across this site whilst looking for motion sim ideas. I'm looking to build a motion sim for car racing, I race cars and would really like something for the winter season a little more realistic than my current setup.

To begin with I was looking at the SCN5 or 6 and looking at the simxpereince module approach, but two things, they're expensive and racing costs money so my budget is tight!! And the UK agent is an, well lets just say he didn't impress me!!

Now looking through the many posts there seem to be a tend towards DC motors rather than linear actuators - so I'm confused but I'll leeok through and try not to ask too many questions, but it's hard as there are so many skilled people here :)

What I can hopefully give back is to help with 'real' world experiences due to my racing (if possible) and I'm also a Control Systems Engineer - I saw one post on setting PID parameters - well this is my world so hopefully I can give back something to the forum which has already given me lots to think about :)

For the moment I'll keep looking through and then see where it takes me - I#m looking to build a 3DOF, I'll build my own frame and am OK at electronics, I'll be using a Fanatec V2 wheel base with various rims, plus will look to build a custom pedal box based on an existing pedal box to give better feel to the brake (pretty well the most essential pedal in a race car!!)

One thing I would like to know straight off is some ideas or pictures of using motors rather than the linear actuators - I had my design all laid out then came across this forum so would be good to roughly see how the motors are mounted and the principles of operation (forum links would be awesome :)

Thanks all and look forward to lots of discussion.

    Welcome @Bluestoneracing.

It is great to see you are thinking of possible contributions from the onset. Most of us mere mortals rely on the expertise of the very gifted and helpful individuals here. Don't hold off with questions, you will find many knowledgeable sim gurus here who give freely of both their time and expertise so the rest of us can build our own motion simulators.

You can run a linear action design with Simtools if you want, check out the info here. I guess the DC motors are for many of us a cheaper alternative.

Re DC motors and design a good place to start is to have a look through member projects as well as FAQs.

While I know you are interested in 3DOF for reference here is a basic 2DOF design by @eaorobbie for DC motors that has measurements.

You can get a good idea of construction of 3DOF traction loss by having a look at @Al.Bundy's project. You can also use a lazy susan as a front pivot plate as @Nick Moxley has done.

You may want to check out @tommy06 beautiful custom pedals for some inspiration.

I will be looking forward to your sim and pedal projects.

    Hi all!
It's a pleasure for me to be here and become a part of this community!

My name's Marco and I'm writing in behalf of my association (settled in Sardinia) to get your skillful comments on the work we are going to do: a 2DOF chair as a first step to a more complicated 6DOF chair we plan to build in the future!

A huge thank to all of you! :)

(and sorry for my bad english..)
