Hi Robert, dig the cockpit. Do you have any parts for your motion set up yet? Arduino, servos, drives? The reason I ask is I beleave I'm about the same stage as you, and would like to follow your progress. I have aruonos and servos I just got moving last night after beating my head against the wall for a week. If I would have followed the step by step directions I would have been farther ahead.

Actually I just found this site... I had never thought about motion control for a game, I was just pursuing a Google search about a microcontroller issue I am having. It looks interesting, but I don't know if IL-2 even supports motion feedback. I may have to look into it further.
Where are you in IL? I just moved here from Wauconda this last sumemr.

I live in Oregon, IL and work for niu in dekalb. I started looking in to motion a couple of years ago, and got frustrated, with my arduino(I have a problem following simple directions sometimes). Recently accuired a lathe and a cnc mill for hobby gunsmithing and was looking at converting the mill to mach3 controls, and Started looking at the arduino again, then I started poking around in here again, and decided to take a run at it. I Mainly use fsx and dcs(Huey, f15,and a10). It looks like there are plug-ins for il-2. Be careful, Ive never been in a motion sim and I'm addicted. Lol.

    Welcome @doduong11.

You will find both an incredible amount of information here and an active community for support.

Add yourself to the members map, have a look through the existing member builds and when you are ready start your own build thread. Ask lots of questions, during the planning stage, as you are building and when setting up your complete simulator.

    Good luck with your project.

    Hey Everyone

Came to this forum to assist my whole DIY setup, have a machine shop at my disposal but my knowledge of electronics is as good as my golf.... which sucks.
I do race cars and karts in real life but always wanted a sim.
will start a thread for some queries instead of putting them here.

    Regards
    Alex

    Welcome @AlexWilmot.

A full machine shop is a great start, most of us manage with simple tools.

There is plenty of information in the FAQ section about various aspects of the electronics: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/

Start your own build thread and outline what you would like to create. Members here can then advise what things you need to consider.

    Hello
I've been playing sims for years.
At the moment, Richard Burns Rally is hands down my favorite, though Stock Car Extreme is also very good.

Before reading a few threads here today, motion simulation seemed a bit too far out of reach.
I've read about tactile transducers before as an option (SimVibe), but I could never justify it as a priority over more useful, better, fuller sound (using mini-DSP with 2 subs EQed almost flat down to 20Hz!!).
However, I still want to feel the visceral swooping and thrashing to be connected to the game.
I have a DFGT and the limited force feedback from the wheel, while precise and engaging, makes me wonder how much more is out there.

Today I spent some hours rebuilding and testing the LED assembly for FaceTrackNoIR with wider angle IR LEDs.
When last used it almost a year ago it seemed like it had unlimited potential, but the LEDs I had were only good for 5-15 degrees of movement in various directions before disappearing on the PS EYE.
Surprisingly, now that I use 3 monitors (portrait-landscape-portrait), it doesn't work in racing sims as well as I'd like, but I'm still hopeful for flight sims (fingers crossed).

I do have a question about 2+DoF sims vs tactile transducers. Are the actuators/motors able to provide 'small'/ high frequency data as well as the transducers? I've seen videos of motion sims and it seems like there is a lot of movement, but it is hard to see the fineness and quality of the movement.

SimVibe seems too limited in what it supports, and I've read that SimTools doesn't support transducers yet.
Will it support them in the near future? Is it just a matter of programming?
It seems that for a quick and dirty approach you'd just need to add a way to map/mix and limit the forces and then send them to an audio output. But maybe that doesn't give a good enough end result.

    Thanks

    Welcome @Diego Lopez.

When you say 3DOF I am guessing you mean to include traction loss, here are some existing examples:

    http://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/2dof-to-3dof-diy-seat-mover.5271/

    http://www.xsimulator.net/community...h-traction-loss-by-pit-finished-but-wip.5276/

    http://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/first-attempt-at-a-2dof-motion-sim.5654/page-3

There are many more to be found in the member build section: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/

You will find the FAQ section covers some more specific topic areas, like types of simulators, designs and motors: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/

When you are ready please start your own project thread.

On your thread do ask questions, there is a lot to take in but the community is good at giving tips during planning, reviewing purchase lists, giving feedback and encouragement during the build and providing advice on actually sorting out motion profiles.

    Good luck with your project.
