Hi. Always been thinking of building a motion sim rig but just don't have the time to do so. This community is great. I'm from Ontario Canada.

The time where you have thinking is lost, because in the same spare time you could have begin already by building a sim :) Anyway welcome here :)

Hello everyone!! My name is Juho and I´m from Finland. Last weekend tested commercial product in the motorsport event and there`s no return! Just watched the prices of commercial products and I came to the conclusion that I produce 3DOF myself!! I´m glad that I found this community, makes me think that it is possible!!

Welcome @Juho Peltomäki, building a DIY motion simulator is indeed possible and you will find plenty of ideas, support and resources here.

Start by having a look throungh existing member builds for ideas and inspiration: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/diy-motion-simulator-projects.22/

There is also an extensive FAQ section: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/

When you are ready please start your own project thread and ask lots of questions, even in the planning phase. You will find members here give freely of their time and expertise.

Good luck with your 3DOF project.

    Welcome @Danmac.

Please start your own build thread, post an outline of you project there and ask any questions you have. That way all information relating to your build in in one place. You will find an active community here that is an incredible resource for support and technical information relating to motion simulators.

Please do take a moment and add yourself to the Member Map: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/memberMap/

    Good luck with your project.

    Hi.
Writing from the windy city, Chicago.
Am an avid flight simulator enthusiast. Been into flight sim since 1984.
Built many generations of scale flight sims.
Very interested in motion platforms. Been researching for a while.

Look forward to posting some success!

    Thanks for the welcome.
    Have a basic question.
I am little confused with the download package options.
    Here is my understanding -
    a) The SimTools base software can be downloaded by a registered member.
    b) For download of game plugins, I will need coins. At a minimum 250 coins to even try the XPlane plugin. So till I accumulate 250 coins, I wont be able to try the SimTools base software with XPlane.

    is my understanding correct?

    Regards,

Yes that is pretty much correct @firstinflight. Do you have a motion simulator or working model to run SimTools and the Xplane plugin with? If so do a post on it in the build threads and I will happily spot you the coins.

I have 2 working near scale sims. Both fixed base. Hence this project!
I have only last week made a list of options. Motors versus actuators, base construction design and software. I wanted to find and test the software first to figure out its workings. I began to look and found this site.

I have multiple cards Phidgets, Arduino. I have interfaced motors before for my jet sim trim wheels and throttle quads. So I know how to do that. I have also written code to build such interfaces. But I have not interfaced the sim with motion before.

I don't want to start by building the platform first. I know I will build that for 2 or 3 DOF and also believe I will build a motion seat in the initial build. I will later extend that to a motion base for the whole sim later.

I want to get the software interface going first. Not sure how to do that if I can't get to download the plugin.

    Regards,

You really need something to hook SimTools up to for testing with Xpalne @FirstepForUp.

The simplest options are an RC servo model: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/design-software.114/

Or a working 3D model in Sketchup 8 hooked up to Simtools: http://www.xsimulator.net/community...o-driven-model-to-test-your-design-ideas.136/

I have given you the coins to do so, so please start a thread of your own in the member build section and post about your testing there, plus ask any questions that come to mind along the way.

Thanks much for all the input. More importantly for the coins!
I will read through all that. I do have a both arduino and phidgets controller cards for servos. Could use them for a prototype. That is exactly what I wanted to do.

Is there a reason why despite having the coins now, the x-plane plugin says "Download not available"??

    Hello All!
Matt here from Wisconsin, USA. Led here via a Frex project gone horribly bad (4 months to deliver incomplete products?!! really?!!) Ask about it and I'll be happy to PM if your considering any of their systems...

Anyway, I'm looking to develop a system the includes full-range motion, sustained G force feedback, and can be easily kit built for less than $20k US... I know, I know, everyone has the same idea! I believe it can be done.
I have a background in IT with extensive experience in machining, racing, and electronics, so I'm looking to combine resources from all fo these areas to come up with a creative solution.
If there is anyone else in the Wisconsin area, drop be a PM and I'd be happy to connect and chat motorsport sims!

    Thanks,
    Matt

I do not want to sound unwelcoming or cold @RealityRacingSystems, but there has been a spate of commercial entities lately that have acted in a questionable fashion. So I am just being upfront and honest in the following, to save any confusion.

Do I understand correctly @RealityRacingSystems, you are basically announcing the intention to design and build a commercial kit simulator?

If so please be mindful of forum licensing of all information here: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/community-etiquette.82/

Personally I go further, specifying licensing that precludes commercial use.

There is a forum section specifically for the purpose to give an overview of commercial simulators, though that should not be used for advertising and sales, and neither should the site messaging system: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/non-diy-simulators-commercial-ones.52/

I have no intention of violating the community policies.
I have a long standing personal interest in motorsport simulation, and was brought here through my involvement as a reseller of sim products.

My comment about a kit was more of an observation on the quality and availability of current offerings. Also, perhaps a reaction to recent, questionable transactions I've had with equipment vendors as well.

My belief that there should be better options available stands. If I decide to take any tangible action on that belief, it will be manifested outside of this entity, in a proper commercial channel.

My interest here and now is for my own personal use and nothing more.
