This workaround provided by Codemasters does not work ... At least with Fanatec wheels ...

The only way to correct this is by modding the controller xml files and manually adjust the wheel buttons mapping and priority...

After recent update game crashes with error after each stage (only when motion is on). Info says: sento failed with error 10038: An operation was attempted on something that is not a socket. It doesn`t matter what value i put into configuration - it happend when motion is enabled.
Is this happen to someone after new Patch?

I have the same sendto failed ... message and this happens when motion is not enabled. Is this a problem since Dirt 3 Steam update?

The problem occured here one time, but never again thereafter. Perhaps they already released a fix for it. The PC I was testing on launches Steam in silent mode, so I wouldn't have seen the updates to be sure.

I have a NON steam version, bought in a box and have no problems what so ever. The Logitech wheel works fine on start up, I just use the buttons on the wheel to activate the menu and game as well as making adjustments for settings. I found no need to change the config file relating to this.
Just a thought, I could be mistaken, but I have seen several issues relating to steam released versions of games. Perhaps buy a boxed version off the shelf at your local video game shop.

If you have trouble with motion so try to edit once again the hardwaresettings file. That is set to dbox after this patch (here).
After this latest patch my game freezes when I set restart a race AND my driver profile is gone so I lost all my races and I had to start over so I decided to give it a break.
Few weeks ago my videocard burned out (outdated anyway) and I had to buy a new one HD 6790.
So I went to play rFactor with everything set to max and I experienced that this game is still GREAT.
In fact I can't play DIRT 3 any more. And I look foward for rFactor 2.

    regards!

Nobody else have this issue because not many people on other forums use simulator. I have everything set as it should be - and that cause the problem. When i switch off motion in config file game works fine. I`ll wait for another patch or go for Retail copy.

I do not know if is this issue you are talkin about but TODAY here Force Sender attempt to use COM port but it was barred by windows (I think) and I had error messages from it and no motion at all... (Not playing Dirt3, but rFactor) The solution was the PORTIO64 that I used before to use SERIAL cable/com port in win SEVEN64.
Hope it can help any one!

If I delete hardware_settings_config.xml file and start game, Dirt 3 will work OK but no motion. So then I close everything and restart game and the motion works but game freezes upon completion of a race.
This and the sendto failed with error ----- problems occur when the game has finished a race and is saving the result.
Is anyone else having these problems?

Before the patch everything worked apart from frequent crashes and freeze ups.
    Game is Steam version.

I have the same message sendto failed with error 10038... and it happens when motion is enabled. the problem occurred since the update for Dirt3
    I have a box version.

I sent a message to Codemasters to explain the problem. (custservice@codemasters.com)
It would be interesting that a maximum of X-Sim users send a message to Codemasters in sort that they are genuinely concerned with the problem.

I fixed the send to ---- problem by deleting local steam content and reloading the files I had downloaded previously and saved.
Now it works but I can't save the update from Games for windows. It runs through the upload process but everytime you start the game it wants to download the patch again.
Fortunately if I click No to the download I can still play the game and it does save games even though GRWL says it won't. But I still have the odd Freeze and crash.
    What a Mess !!!!

Maybe Codemasters just want you to buy one D-BOX (I do not know if it is the case but it makes me wonder)

I wish I am wrong but I can not believe they will listen unless u send $ within your mail :(

What I can say for sure (IMHO) is that Steam makes me mad and Dirt 3 do not worth the headache!
Go for rFactor or other else and have fun

    best regards!

Such a shame. Dirt 3 works really well with the Simxperience Motion Sim, especially over the jumps.
