high speed actuators

    Yeah Bernard and simxperience did help us a lot, personnaly help me, i dont know exactly why ? Maybe because he care about the communoty and he dont tink exclusively to himself. I do trust that guy. He done a lot thx again :cheers:

    That is exactly the response I did get from them as well. However, I did try it anyway.
    But the result wasnt good at all.
    The actuators are pretty slow for car racing simulation, and the accelleration is bad as well. Even when overpowered with 24V instead of default 12V.
    The internal lead screw nut is made of plastic, and I guess it wears out fast when used in a simulator setup with lots of fast direction changes, creating linear play.
    On top of that, as the actuators weren't made for the use with PWM, I did have to replae the wires leading to the pots with shielded ones, to decrease the noise impact on the pot signal.

    But the worst of all Imo, is that the Firgelli actutors I did use, just had a big hole on the rod end, instead of a thread to actually screw something (ball-joint e.g) to them.
    I asked a friend to cut a thread into the rod end with a professional lathe.
    The rod end is made from aluminium. So you have just one chance to cut the thread. If you screw it up, you basically destroy the actuator, as the rod is a special part.
    The place where the thread is cut into, is an aluminium plug in the aluminium tube. I dont know if this plug would remain on its place affter several hours of simulator use.

    If you add up the effort and risk of damaging the actuator in the process, the plastic lead-screw-nut and of course the weak actuators performance...well, I wouldnt recommend them.

    Btw, my last post has been written in regard of the Firgelli actuators with feedback, but Adgun asked about the high speed ball-screw-drive model with 220mm/s, which is quite a bit a better performance than the ones I did use :blush:

    But unfortunatly the have the same unpractical hole in the rod end, instead of a thread, which would require some thoughts about the actuator mounting, and lack position feedback.

    20% duty cycle would be probably enough for some kind of simulator with less action than a car racing simulator (Cessna flight simulator e.g.), or at least with a smooth movement profile.

    I would prefer SCN5' still.
