Hi Drumbass (I tend to missread your name LOL)
Nice progress on your project you make!
Please allow me to guide you to my project descritption about a joyrider. I also used bicycle chains on the pitch axis, a lever on the roll axis. And BTW the next time I would use a lever on the pitch too due to the backlash of the chain.
To allow the movement of my tripple screens the frame is not flat but in a triangle shape. There is plenty of informtation in the thread, including SketchUp drawings.

    Hi all,

value: nice simulator! I had initially planned to use 3 monitors, but now i'm thinking to use a system that combine an air-mouse for head tracking and an 8-10 lcd screen, mounted togheter on an helmet.

Your simulator inspired me to re-design mine. So i've changed my project into this:

I hope to start early to work on it

    Best regards,

Nice idea, been done before at least once.
Nice floaty motion for sure, dunno about little bumps.
It seems a lever on a motor on the leverage point gives good fine bumps.
Although Value1 can correct me on this.

    Hi,

I'm thinking about what it is that generates the typical ugly noise of winch motors. I suppose that is caused by the continuous and fast clangclangclangclangclang of the parts 2 and 4 in the figure below:

If we remove them we lose the auto-brake of motors. This is a problem? Or the Polulu board manages also the motor brake? It would be great to have the power of a motorized winch without that orrible noise!

    Best regards,

The winches are noisy because of the metals gears.
I remember someone had plastic gears cut for it, but it didnt stop the noise. Its the gearbox setup, thats all.
The Pololu JRK (thats if you use it) holds the motor in a central stop position when its running and not in game.
However, depending on the motor gearbox setup , the holding torque varies.
Winch motor gearbox, very good at holding it due to gearbox setup. Excellent motion from them with the right lever set on it.
Wiper motor good as well, but they do no last long and are slow.
Big worm gear motors are ok at holding, more like just some movement as you get in and out of the sim. Like getting in and out of a car, a bit of suspension movement. But with big worm gear motors, very snappy and fast motion.

Even actuators can be noisy. SCN5 chirp after a while.
The actuators I use sound like they are grinding.

Ok to use the winch in both directions of movement you have to remove these parts.
The reason behind the noise is the gear meshing are not perfect , another user made custom gears for his winch to quiten it down a bit.
But once you use it a 15:1 ratio the noise is noticable if you dont have game sound running but a little volume it never bothered me.
The resulting power avail out weigh the noise. plus at $100 they are cheap and powerful, noise is not a real bother.
