yep, 25:1 motor fine, it seems most guys are leaning towards that. Just maybe start with a lever with several holes in it, from 40mm to 80mm and see how the motor goes throwing you around.
    Sorry, are you using jrks?
The bigger motors do better than SCN products and a hell of a lot cheaper

@bsft yes ill be using jrks. Did you see my picture I did on paint earlier? Do you think it would be a viable option?

should be ok, I recall another member used linear bearings under his for surge and sway table .
Might have to give yours a go.

@bsft Is there a different actuator or similar I could use for the surge? I guess worm gear could do the job again with a simple rod at front or rear pulling it forward and back such as the traction loss

You could use an SCN6, I think are the stronger ones.
they cost about $550 US, plus power supply and any cables. That ads up about $600 or so plus shipping.
DC worm gear motor abour $90 depending on where you find it and another jrk and pot. S0 add maybe $150 extra
$250 ish for a motor that does the same job.

Has anyone installed Surge on their simulators and how did you find it? Worth installing? For acceleration and braking

Ive made a big change in my design now. I did get 3 x 40" tvs for my rig to do eyefinity or such but decided to return them and order the Oculus Rift instead which will obviously help big time with weight. Im now thinking ill start my new sim from scratch and it will most likely be a seat mover instead of a full frame mover. Time to do some research into how to do this with traction loss and surge still if possible

Ideas do change as you get more into what you actually want, I know mine have.

The principles of surge and traction loss still apply, so it is a question of design. Traction loss still needs a forward pivot point so there is an frame for that, with a seat shake design on top. Surge would need to be between the two.

@bsft Im just wondering if you think id still need 50:1 motor for my rig if I made the monitor static separate from rest of frame from using oculus rift. I was considering making it a seat mover but I think I want the steering wheel and pedals to move too but Ill be making the monitor setup static separately to avoid it on the movement.

Maybe, again it depends if you have to add extra steel to strengthen the frame. if you are unsure, stay with 50:1 boxes plan, we can work on lever lengths after its built to see if you can get more linear speed with a longer lever.

OK thanks good to know. Are we talking steel tubes still? I've ordered 4 of the 700w hp power supplies now so they are on the way.

    Thanks @noorbeast

Would anyone be kind enough to explain the chain drive system some have in place for traction loss and surge etc?

Ive looked at a few projects and don't understand it fully. Looks like the motor gets attached to frame and has sprocket on it and is the chain welded onto the sides? Is it meant to be like a bike and is a continuous circle and spins around

Traction loss can Easily be done with a lever. Surge table, Not so much. My lever setup for traction loss works Great and Im kind of glad after the initial tests with my chain setup, The Noise...urg. I really dont like noisy mechanics and the lever makes next to Nothing for sound, Only sound might be the Mechanical Frame stops Touching from time to time in a Crazy crash situation.
