As this has been disagreed to by 2 members, I am not going to modify it, but leave it as is. @Jason Currington , I shall leave this up to you. Enjoy your sim building. You are welcome to choose the control boards you wish, and there is help from both sides in getting them going.
    Dave out.

would these motors be able to sustain many hours of play at once ? or is overkill in this case a good thing being that I am heavy ? I have no problem spending the money to make it work correctly. rather that than having to redesign the whole rig

I dont have plans as such, but a basic sketch to start with for a shoulder mount seat mover
    seatmover1dimentions.jpg
With your weight Id suggest set motor rod arms back at 20 deg and 20 deg to the side. @Nick Moxley , but chance do you have a sketch to share?
Just make a frame for the seat and add extra size for the bottom
The motors and gearboxes will survive if properly put in place. @eaorobbie and @Nick Moxley has been thrashing the crap out of their motors and I used them on simulators for commercial use and since I sold the simulators, they are still going.
Anything will fail if incorrectly used, as several people found out.
The motors Nick linked you to will do the job just fine. Set them up right and thrash hard.
    Dave.

EDIT, once a seat is found suitable, a frame design can be worked out from there. Its not complicated, just the right measurements.

Don't worry Jason, I am bigger than you (6'4 @ 350lbs) and mine tosses me around like a rag doll. My wife made me install seat belts! :)

In Sketchup you go to File->Export->2D Graphic then give your image a name, save it to your computer and then upload it here as an image in your post.

That is a very useful start.

Can I clarify what you have in mind to connect the motor to the bottom platform for traction loss, is it a cable, chain, rod or something else you have in mind?

Yes. I was thinking chain. Seems you can get more travel out off it than a linkage and level setup

What travel are you planning, others have gone for 300mm total or less?

Guess I don't know what the standard Tra el would be.... what should I be aiming for. Also should my controls be stationary or mounted to the Sim ?

Follow in the footsteps of what others have done: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/faq/traction-loss.174/

It is a seat shaker design if the controls are separate and a full frame design if the controls move with the sim. Both designs have their advocates, see here for a current discussion on the topic: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/what-the-ideal-motion-system-for-a-racing-sim.7298/

Ok so motor 1 and 2 are shoulder mount. And 3 is tracking loss, do I need a 4th for heave function ? and if so how do I setup heave with a ujoint style support ?
