There are smaller GTX970s make for limited space in mind.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125706

The GTX970 will give great performance for 3x1080 in most games.

You might wait anyway as later this month Nvidia will unveil their new Pascal cards which promise to be twice as fast as current 900 cards (smaller die, 16nm vs 28nm and twice the memory bandwidth). Why spend that much right now for a GPU and have it outdated by a similarly priced card in a couple of months?

cheers, ill look into those. Nick moxley did say that a couple of weeks ago but i imagine they will be expensive. i wouldnt mind getting a pascal for the same sort of money as the 980 but i expected them to be well over the £1000 mark. ill keep an eye out over the next few weeks. Its good news the pc i have is suitable so thats a bonus i guess

I think they will release three cards initially, as usual. The third lowest should be on par with the cost of a 980ti but more powerful.

It is worth waiting to find out anyway.

I would question that statement My 980Ti SC isn't exactly able to run games MAXED out.....I do have to take it down a small notch if i want 100% fluid fps when racing with 25+ AI.......So Imo a 970 would work, but you would be on Bare minimum setting's for some of the newer eye candy rich games.

I run 970s overclocked and to be honest they are not far off the standard 980 performance, so are hard to beat in terms of bang for your buck. Still it is close to the release of next gen cards so it is worth waiting where possible before buying a new high end card.

thanks for all the info. i think i will wait and see what the costs are like of these new ones. i suppose i would be mad not to considering the rig is not built yet. Hoping to see the actuators towards the end of next week so can at least start on that hopefully.

i run triple 1080s with single 970 (no problems as long as you dont "overdo" it with shadows, reflections and far terrain).

well i have opened the case and this is what is in there. the power supply is i assume 498 watts but there is a lower number too so wouldnt want to assume. the card that is in it at the minute is an AMD radion r9 255 so pretty basic i assume. I think i could swap the card but it should be good enough on one screen on basic settings just to get set up ( i hope )..
the with of the case is 355mm inside and the mother board is 245mm long.
At least i havent got to rush to get a card or another pc for a couple of months.
I have downloaded sketchup 2013 32bit and sketchy physics but i have no plug in option in the sketch up but i will scout posts for now to see if i can find out why 20160405_194035.jpg 20160405_194101.jpg 20160405_194146.jpg

thanks pipis. I thinking im going to hopefully soldier on with what i have for now, card dependent. I do tend to rush and regret.

Your PSU (Power Supply Unit) is fine for a GPU upgrade.

It looks like there is plenty of room for a GPU upgrade as well.

The R9 255 is a good mid card, you can play any game triple 1080p at low to medium settings. Plenty good enough to test things out.

Run what you have for now and when your rig is ready build a new PC for it.

hi guys. I'm stuck in a dilemma. obviously i want to build the rig to suit me, but i also want to let people play on it to show it off as you do. im not sure how to go about adjustment. is it best to have fixed pedals and wheel and let the seat move or visa versa. im not worried about adjusting pedal angle but just the distance from the seat. Also could you recomend a descent seat that will fit all sizes. ive looked at racing seats and they are a tight fit but my gt omega is basically a car seat so not so tight. the problem with it being a car seat i that the butkicker seams to rattle the springs underneath and sounds terrible.

I can't recommend a seat but with respect to adjustment move the pedals/wheel, not the seat. People approach that in different ways, here are some examples:

cheers guys. i was originally looking at noorbeasts first link, but i quite like the idea of the seat slider if i can adapt the wheel and move together which should be to hard. i could just make a full prame for pedals and wheel and fit the runners.

Does this rattle avenga with the buttkicker?

They vibrate really well with buttkicker, they don't make any rattling noises or anything, once they are locked in to place on the slider they are rock solid.

I have 7 butt kickers on my rig, that one on the pedals, others on the shifter and seat, then 4 more on the corners to simulator the wheels. For the pedals I mostly just run engine vibrations and a few other things then I run all the suspension bumps etc off the 4 on the corners. It works really well, you can feel exactly where the vibrations are coming from.

I used to have an adjustable frame like the one in Noorbeasts first link, the front half of my rig was a GT Omega EVO once apon a time. I found that as my rig got heavier with the motion upgrade it became really hard to extend the frame, now I can just pull the lever and adjust the pedals in seconds. It is really cheap to do. I just went down to the local scrap yard and picked up the sliders for a couple of dollars out of a wreaked car. That second link that @noorbeast posted is the same idea as I use.

I am even thinking of upgrading it to an electric seat slider from a modern car, reroute the controls to my dash so you can adjust it while sitting down.

thanks for the info mate. cracking rig you have built. I especially like the idea of ellectric runners but the lever type will do me just fine for now. dont want to run before i can walk. I can wait for my bits to arrive

Just chased frex up and they said my 5 actuators will be getting shipped on the 18th via fed-ex so i should have them by the end of next week. Looking forward to cracking on with it.
