Note: that updating the USB3 drivers did make the CV1 usable, although I'm still getting the odd camera disconnect/connect, so have ordered a 5 port PCIe USB3 Card which supposedly has the compatible chipset. Will update how successful it is when it arrives.

Hi @SeatTime , I have a PCI card with a CV1. I had issues with the rift and the sensor connected to the PCI card together. Many on reddit report this as well. I got it working 100% with no disconnects by connecting the sensor to the PCI card and the Rift to an on board USB port.

I also use this CMD file to turn on and off the rift when I dont want to use it but keep my PC on. It also may help if you do get an odd disconnect or the service doesnt start at boot.

    sc config OVRService start= demand
    net start "OVRService"
    if %errorlevel% == 2 net stop "OVRService"
    pause

I added a pause to ensure it executed and to see if it turned the rift on or off. Make sure to run it in administrator mode.

To some extend first gen VR is so niche that the early developers are somewhat crash test dummies. The Rift has its red screen tint, the Vive has had some annoying software bugs, along with bluetooth/wifi interference and both can be a bit fussy with USB.

And how about the 'God rays' really.. for a consumer producto_O, don't get me wrong, I know it is still early days VR wise and I roll with what we have got, but in demonstrating it to other people they cannot believe what is going on there - all I can say to them is maybe wait for Gen2/3?

I am surprised god rays as a byproduct of Fresnel lenses did not get substantial pre-release coverage, as they should have. It is not really an issue of being a consumer product or not, it is the inevitable trade off when using Fresnel lenses. The upsides are larger sweet spot and flatter lighter lenses, allowing for more compact HMDs.

The perception of god rays varies considerably depending on your eyes and I believe with the Rift there are lens quality variations as well.

I have astigmatism in my right eye which really exacerbates the negative effects of god rays and I find the Rift is worse for me than the Vive. Others have the opposite experience with the wider ridges of the Vive Fresnel lenses.

You are going to notice god rays with things like white text on black backgrounds and it astounds me that they went for that in the likes of the intro to Henry. Some games like ED are more affected because of dark backgrounds and bright objects.

That said you don't notice them in a lot of game environments.

Well... Finally fixed my camera disconnect issue by fitting a PCIe USB3 card which also created some issues until I discovered an incompatibility with my PCIe WiFi card (cannot have both fitted at same time). Worked perfectly for a time until I loaded another game and now the HDMI port on the CV1 will not respond...:(.
Tried on my sons computer which it always worked perfectly on, but no joy. Support ticket to Oculus submitted....

Oh dear, hardware compatibility is a pain and Oculus support can take days to respond.

While I was waiting for Oculus support to get back to me, decided to remove and re-install all of the Oculus software - as even though I did not think it would change anything - I figure it could not hurt. And you won't believe it, but it seems to have fixed the 'HDMI not Detected' problem:eek:. I cannot believe that this even worked, as the headset would not work on my sons computer which it had always worked perfectly on from day one? Well back to downloading software (again..). Hope it lasts:).

Nice, I hope everything goes smoothly. Oh, one more thing, further testing revealed that by removing my Wifi card that sits in a PCIe slot on my computer, the CV1 works fine with no extra USB3 card needed o_O. FI - I have 6 x USB3 outlets on my motherboard, and the CV1/Camera ports will not work on all of them...
It seems that CV1 can be a really fussy in regard to USB3 chipsets, and what you have plugged in to some motherboards. Note that I have never had a problem running any other piece of equipment through my USB/PCIe outlets. For what it is worth, the computer/motherboard also passed the Oculus CV1 compatibility test with no issues.
