This is the engine and the manager running after the reinstall and with the TCP and UDP permissions automatically created by my firewall after the first time I ran both programs. 20181221_053640.jpg

Have you again tried shutting off the firewall and antivirus temporarily since the reinstall of SimTools, as something on your computer is the most likely culprit.

    Yes, it should say connected.
It does seems like something is misconfigured on the PC.
Maybe time for a reinstallation of Windows?
    Take care,

@yobuddy. I am at my wits end. I am not reaching out to friends/people I or my friends and family know who might be willing to come to my place and help me diagnose this ??possible?? UDP connection problem.

@noorbeast I am holding DOFReality responsible for the overall outcome of their product. I have been communicating here in good faith that my efforts (regardless of theirs) would result in a functional 3DOF setup. I can not say that is the case at this point.

I appreciate all the help and advice I have received on this thread. I have learned quite a lot about the software and how it works.

I wish a re-installation of Windows was a possibility, but a full reset is not an option(although a promising one). I have also considered buying another computer with a brand new system with newer and better hardware dedicated to this sim, but that is also not an option at this time. There must be a reason why a software package that so many people use, isn't working on my machine, and therefore I must be able to fix it.

So I'll keep trying. I've started to look into how UDP works and a way to confirm sent/received information but that's looking beyond my skill set without help.

Any help, questions, and insights are very welcome.

Can I clarify, did you also reinstall plugins while the firewall and antivirus were turned off, or did you install the plugins after the firewall and antivirus were tuned back on?

I ask because my earlier comment also applies to plugins, not just SimTools:

    Hi John,
Coming from someone that has repaired PC for a living for over 15 years, I can tell you that what you are seeing here is not normal.
First, I would install AVG Free and be done with win Defender, if thats what you are using.
Second, I would restart the PC in safe mode and see if the apps connect, if they do, you have something loading with windows that is blocking communication.

To be fair, it seems like the problem is with your PC and not the Sim.
In 5 years + of SimTools, we have never seen communication only blocked in a single direction.
So there isn't a simple answerer here and it's going to take some investigation I'm afraid.

Please try the steps I suggested above and let me know how it goes,
    yobuddy

    Hi @noorbeast,
I have not even installed the plugins yet. I am just attempting to get the game manager and the game engine to connect with each other before moving onto connecting with a game. (In previous installs I have installed the plugins and the motion works correctly from the game engine)

    Hi @yobuddy,
I greatly appreciate all this help. I agree that this has something to do with my computer.
I did install AVG Free, it installed antivirus software but not firewall. This didn't change the situation.

I restarted my computer this morning and safe mode with networking and they connected!! So again I agree it is something with my computer.

I restarted again in normal mode and completely turned off my firewall, the two did not connect, so I'm thinking something else is loading which is causing the problem.
I haven't needed to use safemode before to diagnose a problem so I am now going to research how safemode works and what the differences are, maybe I can find a way to turn things on one at a time and see when the problem starts to happen.

Thank you for these suggestions, if you have something else for me to try, now that we know it works in safe mode I am all ears and will try it.

    @noorbeast @yobuddy

    Problem solved!!!

So after starting in safemode and seeing the manager connected I had to look up what safe mode really did and found what was referred to as a "Clean Boot" where I used msconfig to turn off all non-windows services.

I traced the problem to a service that was running called:

    AsusGameFirstService made by AsusTek

I am on an Asus machine so I can only imagine this came installed on my computer. Regardless of where it came from I enabled all other services and the manager and engine are still connected!

    THANK YOU!

I understand that since I did not build this rig myself I was far behind the curve in terms of the details of how all of this works and I could not have found this solution without your help, again, thank you!

    @John Wilson,
    Excellent work buddy!
You followed where I was going with the safe mode thing to a tee.
(turn a few back on at a time to find the cultrate)
    Great work man!!

I know when things don't work It can be frustrating.
But I would argue it's when those times happen, that when press on and figure it out, that it simply feels amazing.
I bet you tingled a bit when you figured it out? lol

Looking up AsusGameFirstService I see it's a network optimization tool. lol
Did you feel optimized? seems like it broke stuff to me. lol
Turning this off may fix other things that may have been a problem up to this point.
Like network connected drives, shared folders, etc..

Anyway, way to stay with it, and see it thru.
    Enjoy you new sim buddy.
    Game On! lol

Absolutely awesome to find the solution! It was a brilliant moment when I saw the change in safe mode, and I was lucky enough to find out why that worked and then to find the actual smoking gun was amazing. Could not have gotten here without your help! The forum venue was an unusual support system for me but I'm a new hardcore fan, mostly because the help was coming from people that are invested in the product , and really want to help, and not someone being paid (maybe) a minimal wage to ask questions from a list that ends in someone saying "I'm sorry we can't help you."

    Thanks again and again!!!

I totally understand man. The nice thing of the forum is anyone can catchup on the conversation at any time and then help out.
And there is a record left of the fix for the problem.

But mostly, Its just so we have a record of what we have and have not tried.
As my short term memory... what were we talking about again? hehe
    Take care,
