Attaching the screen to the platform would be a bit complicated (4.2 mt. diameter).
I was more inclined to implement something like the D-Box SRP-120 motion platform. The only problem with this system is the cost (AU$$.$$$$).

Why not just buy from Motion Dynamics in Australia the hq industry motor and combine it with gas struts. I made a great experience with gas struts (under my seat), they can be perfectly adjusted to the weight.

It may be an option to be considered.
Do you have any sketch/picture of your system to give me a better idea how I could implement in my sim?
    Thank you

I re-purposed an office chair tilt mechanism to create an adjustable tension heave knee for my 3DOF compact sim: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/dx-racer-compact-simulator.5866/page-12#post-81158

Would it be possible to just mount a winch in each corner? Either mounted on the ceiling or via 4 poles? The platform would be free floating then, don't know if that's a problem, but it would be a pretty easy build.

Of course, no problem. Winches are cheap and very powerful, the only disadvantage is the planetary gearbox wich is pretty noisy. The noise can reduced by mounting them on a heavy stone (no joke, the stone absorbes the sound frequency and small vibrations). Because they are spinning rather slowly you can use long(er) levers, ergo the winches do not need to rev at full sped which reduces the noise. BUT you will still hear the winches, no matter what you are doing, the winches are winches lol.

NTL I would prefer the gas struts solution if there is no way to go the AC route.
