Plenty of Reddit angst about the smaller Rift FOV and the Vive also being much brighter.

The latest CV1 Rift concerns, other than it not shipping pre-orders on the launch day, are lens flaring and the Steam version of Pcars not being playable with the CV1 Rift from day 1. At this stage only the Oculus Home version plays and the Pcar devs are getting plenty of flak for it.

I think I definitely will stay with what I use for now then at least until the rush to get VR is over. By then it should be clearer which has the best technology. Thanks for your answers everyone!;)

If it is only for Sim, I think Oculus would be the best price wise, as we don't need the controls or room scale, but it is a good decision to wait until both units are released.

O boy, this aint gonna make you boys happy.

    Dev diary 1.5 3/3

"Since working on Oculus support requires us to allocate extra time and resources – because of its complexity it cannot be managed easily or in a few days – we will have to take a moment and consider when our current development schedule will allow us to do so, but realistically not before this summer. Our aim is to support VR – and not necessarily only the Oculus Rift – when we will be able to take the time and resources required.

We fully understand that people who have invested in the purchase of a VR device want to use it as much as possible, and we know that Assetto Corsa guaranteed a ton of fun with the Oculus SDK2 (that could only be better with the retail version), therefore we promise that we will take the time to evaluate the option of creating proper VR support in harmony with other tasks and priorities that we have already scheduled."

Looks like CV1 has very good tracking with one camera.

The Oculus pre-order drama over few Rifts being shipped, none at all in some places like NZ and Australia. Palmer Lucky finally made a bland non-statement, which for many was just fuel for the customer dissatisfaction: https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/com...ding_these_threads_come/d1l2dm3?context=10000

People are starting to question if there is a significant Rift manufacturing flaw or if third party contractors just dropped the ball. Time will tell.

I guess it is made worse with the competition HTC obviously having Vive stock on hand world wide and progressing both payments and shipping ahead of their launch date next week.

It's not a great marketing strategy (maybe the same strategy as Formula1 lately...).
It's like saying a child Xmas is no more the 25th of December but somewhere between February/March.

Also, this delay will be 'absorbed' or it would even be worse for whom, let's say, have a preorder for July. Will they get the CV1 on November? If I were unsure between CV1/Vive I'd then jump aboard the Vive ship doubtless

Considering HTC was already a leading manufacture of smart phones and has been doing it since 1997 it’s really not surprising that they have been able to meet the Vive’s release deadlines. Oculus Rift on the other hand was just a kickstarter project in 2012.

Looks like it has, my shipping fees have been deleted, which is a huge cost at US$132 for Aussies.

The speculation now is what it means for those who did or did not get the latest email. I and a bunch of others who got the earlier 1-3 week shipping email didn't get the latest email, and the current theory is that those who don't are in the first batch prior to the 12th April and those that did get the latest email are likely to ship after 12th April: https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/4d0oc7/if_you_got_the_13_week_email_but_not_the/

    Great news!

No shipping costs I welcome with open arms. I've kept my head in the sand as to shipping dates, the stress waiting for the last two DK units with all the delays is something I wanted to avoid. But I also got the email about an updated shipping date for the 12th, so now I'm getting excited again!
