I think $500 USD will be about right. I'm going to wait until the Vive has been out for a while and I get some time and money together to upgrade my hardware to handle it. The price of the high end graphics cards at the minute is crazy. I believe a 980 is needed to run the rift. I hope in 12 months the price has come well down for both the headsets and the pc parts needed.

Waiting is not a bad idea if you need to be sure about how the consumer version perform and what costs are involved. A 970 if the Oculus recommended spec Nvidia card.

Pre-orders are 3am for me, so it is a later night.

Ironically I am somewhat more interested in what other specific information is or is not released, rather than the cost of the Rift. Hopefully there may be some detail via Palmer's Reddit AMA, though I am a bit skeptical. It would be nice to have some certainty around the timeline and cost of Oculus Touch.

This is another thing makes me suspicious. There's no real concrete details coming from anywhere. I think facebook may have something to do with what appears to be a highly secretive company now, which they weren't before.

Good to hear the 970 is enough to run it. The 980 is almost twice the price.

it would be nice if they'd sell the touch for let's say half the price for the ones who buy cv now. It's so clear they had to separate them because of htc

also, do you know if OR takes advantages from SLI?
in that case I could keep my two 670s OC (as powerful as one 970, but with less memory)

What Oculus is offering with Touch is that those who pre-order the Rift automatically go to the head of the Touch pre-order line.

I just hope they have learned from the DK2 pre-order debacle where actual delivery to places like Australia was over 4 months...it made a joke of there being any reason to pre-order in the first place.

SLI for VR is still problematic, at this stage a single card is the way to go until Nvidia and AMD resolve technical matters, likely in the next gen cards.

Actually I expect a lot of the juicy detail will be when Palmer does his Reddit AMA in just under 11 hours time, so 10 hours after pre-orders open.

if i don't have to pay in full now and only a deposit i may well go for it now, i can always sell the kids n the misses later to fund the rest if i ain't found it by time needed ! lol

For first gen consumer VR an overclocked 970 is about the best value.

Next gen cards with VR specific capabilities will not be cheap. But in some respects VR will re-energise graphic card innovation.

It will be a deposit, same as the DK2, full payment on shipping, which could be anything from 2 weeks to 2 months.

i still think you need 980 or ti one to be safe as i tried my dk2 on my mates and it was ok but not full setting but i hope thats just sdk not right yet to run smooth as you would want but if you need to maintain 90 fps then i think 980 min n 970 pushing it to get any detail graphics.
how exciting just gotta ask the misses if i can put the order in for it now if only a deposit to order one.

Performance Vs cost is a trade off, but an overclocked 970 does not give much away to the 980, at a significantly lower cost.

Personally I have gone with 970s in both my VR computers and will instead splurge when the next gen graphic cards are out.
