Mine is for June, so I'm fixing the dmd chip of my Optoma HD66 and doing a curved screen for use in the meantime...

I am glad to see it, perhaps competition is a good thing.

Yeah, it has been around for awhile. Tested did a video about it last E3.

It only works with one game at the moment (A Walking Dead game) so I don't see it going mainstream, as @noorbeast beast said, probably just for VR arcades.

I can only guess you guys missed the "partner list" and if any of you are Die Hard Assetto fans. You'll notice something/someone familiar which could lead to Great thing's in the future. :p

I am not sure how 505 Games being a partner changes the technical advances needed for high quality VR at the panel size, at a consumer price. If it does then I would like to know more.

Anyone in the UK considering the HTC Vive may wish to check out virtuallydeaddotcodotuk [i can't enter link due to less than 1o posts). Apparently an immersive vr zombiefest at a secret London location in a venue that's half a kilometre in size. It is playing during March ahead of Vive launch and is supposedly scarier than Donald Trump's hairdo.

Thanks for adding the link noorbeast. I'm tempted to get a ticket but the 400 mile round trip to London and back is a bit of a dampener.

That does look like it would be fun. This is the type of thing that the Vive would be really good for.

I agree the Vive would be fun but it is still a tethered, so it will be really interesting to find out how the experience is managed given the emphasis on the large event area.

Yeah, the tether would be a nightmare. I could just see everyone tripping over each other's cables.

I saw some interesting backpack mounted gaming laptops at CES which they were using for VR demos. That would be cool but very expensive by the time you get the Vive and laptop.

Serious VR laptops with PC GTX 980 grade video cards are only just coming out and are horrendously expensive, but they could be used in a backpack mobile unit: http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np9870s-clevo-p870dmg-p-8798.html

Though expensive that would be interesting as Lighthouse could scale to track a very large game play area, including using Chaperon so players don't walk into walls and the like.

Maybe old news here, but have you heard of 'The Void'? Looks quite interesting. Virtual reality walk thru's.

    Those Sager laptops are mean.

I saw Linus Tech Tips did a review of one a few months ago. Full desktop GTX 980 and a 6700K, same specs as my PC in a laptop format.

Yeah, I saw that a while ago, they use their own proprietary VR headsets and run them off a backpack.

The Void looks pretty cool. I'm working my way up to a wearable pc, having just picked up a subpac m2 wearable subwoofer. Only tried it with music so far and it doesn't disappoint. Next up will be gaming and a comparison with my Buttkickers. I suspect that they have a bit more kick but you can't wear them.

Sager ... In fact "Clevo" ... Laptops are affordable beasts.

    But don't get carried away.

No way a mobile GPU can match the performance of a desktop gpu.

It's simple math. A 180 watt psu can't give enough juice.

    I know from experience.

    Don't get me wrong.

Modern laptops are miraculous devices. Value for money is good also.

But when it comes to specs you have to know that all components are under clocked and undervolted brothers of their desktop "twins".

The Sager has a full desktop GPU, it is not a mobile GPU like the GTX 980M, it is a full desktop GTX 980.

It has a 330W power supply.

If you watch the video I posted about, the Sager laptop is getting same benchmarks as a desktop with the same specs.
