My dad did the circuit for me :)
This is directed to Bvillersjr, Sirnoname, Christian (Ego) or any other electronic guru just to check it over if you don't mind.

    Re: SCN5 Hardware Thread

    Referring to your circuit

    killswitch
-Connect the Zener to the GND cable (green/yellow)
-Connect the resistor to the 24V cable (blue)

    PSU
-Connect the blue cable to 24V
    -Connect (green/yellow) to GND
-Connect brown to both brown cables of the SCN5 cables (but NOT to PSU)

Btw, I am not sure if this switch will work. It seems to me that is is a pushbutton, that is open on default.
You need a switch that is closed by default.

I wont recommend this converter. It seems to be a Hexin one, which made some trouble so far.
You should take a FTDI chip based converter.
Take the blue one from the asian supplier at ebay. It is cheaper as well. Afair virtual village is the supplier.
Or in case you want to spend some money for a qualtiy one, then order one from Trossen Robotics.
But the cheap one I mentioned above works flawlessly as well.

    Re: SCN5 Hardware Thread

The GND symbol is the connection for the AC ground, while V- is imho the GND for the DC circuit.

Just take multimeter and measure it, if you have doubts still.

Thank you for this information and I will take your advice.
For the power cables and cable SCN5 RS485 I see that you had manufactured some, is what it you remains it?

    Re: SCN5 Hardware Thread

Thanks Ego, I need a new switch. This is just a push button. However on default it is ON. But it releases after press, Swicth needed.

I have done what you say on my circuit but if this is right then I will enclose everything in a box like you suggest. ilkcircuit.JPG

    Then you can use it.

The circuit seems ok to me.

:D YIpeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Very happy. I'm becoming electrician :)

Can these zenone diodes ever fail? Because I was thinking if they ever failed then green/yellow (ground) would be flowing to the brown, blue.

Do you know what I mean?

    Dear sirs,

Please see photo attached. This is how far I have got with the ilk circuit. It is proving to be abit of a mind boggler. Have to say it doesnt take much for that.

    My question is:

What do I do from here. Do I need a further resistor and zenon diode?

Kind Regards & and thanks for the patience! part2_ilk.JPG

    Re: SCN5 Hardware Thread

No, please remove the SCN5 power cables from the safety circuit. You need an extra cable for the killswitch. It has to have 3 wires, and has to be as long as you need it to position the killswitch where you can reach it while racing.

    Dear sirs,

This is my 5th attempt at the ilk circuit diagram

Is it wrong? I will have another attempt if so. I find it hard to quit :)

    Re: SCN5 Hardware Thread

    Hi,

    got a question:

For a overvoltage circuit, isn´t it more safe to use a TVS or Schottky diode? They are faster than a z-diode and i´ve heard, that the are more common in overvoltage circuits. I only want to be sure, that the little z-diode absorb any overvoltage fast enough.

    Thanks.

    Re: SCN5 Hardware Thread

Hmmm interesting. Never head of those two alternative. I did read about them on the google wiki.

I have found these switches with 4 terminals on Ebay. Are these okay to use for emergancy button for the ilk. Only £2.00

A rocker switch is an on/off switch that rocks (rather than trips) when pressed, which means one side of the switch is raised while the other side is depressed much like a rocking horse rocks back and forth. A rocker switch may have a circle (for on) on one end and a horizontal dash or line (for off) on the other to let the user known if the device is on or off. Rocker switches are used in surge protector s, display monitors, computer power supplies, and many other devices and applications.

A rocker switch with independent circuitry can have a light activated on the face of the switch in both the on and off positions, which allows the switch to be found easily in the dark. With dependent circuitry, the light is activated only when the switch is on. Statement from whatis.com

That is very cool but I think I need one with 4 pins.
But that Emergancy button you have linked is the style I need.

    Re: SCN5 Hardware Thread

    @Fahim

No, you dont need 4 pins.

Connect it this way (those two lines cutting the wires to the killswitch are to demonstrate that the wires are actually longer than shown in the picture. Because you have to place the switch somewhere you can easily reach it ICE :brows:)

    Re: SCN5 Hardware Thread

    Hey guys,

As you may have noticed I had problems understanding simple things. But FINALLY I understand what needs to be done after a lot of questions asked to x-sim members. Hope I have not fried your brains :D . I have made a diagram of the way I will be setting up my parts. This is it. This is to the best of my knowledge I have gathered over the few weeks so do not hold a gun to my head if my diagram does not work for you. I still need to recieve my toggle switch so it might take me one week to complete. I will keep you updated.

    Kind Regards. diagram.JPG

    Re: SCN5 Hardware Thread

Below is the adaptors I'm using. Also below is my readout after playing Rfactor with the F1 intel car.

What's worrying is I'm only getting 62 outputs. Because I've been reading in the forums that some of you guys are getting even 150 outputs to 200.

I have messaged the guys from Ebay who sold me these adaptors. Because I've forgot wether they were auto or not. Finally do you think that game profiles effect output per second. I.e better profile = higher output rate.

    Re: SCN5 Hardware Thread

At the beginning i got the same little outputs/sec like you. When i increased the baud rate of my USB/RS232 converters in the device manager of Windows XP to 156000 and decreased polling time of force sender to 4ms and also the profiler settings of math, plugin and main programm to a similar setting i got fluctuating outputs between 250 and over 300 outputs/seconds 8)

Dont know if that could be really true because i didn´t test it, but actuator movements are very syncron to ingame movements.

I use the Hexin converter with active USB-RS232 adapters.

    regards

    Re: SCN5 Hardware Thread

Well the supplier from Ebay has emailed me saying the above adaptors in picture are non-auto
