    Re: SCN5 Hardware Thread

I have re-edit this post. Because I siggested the ebay adapotrs pictures above may produce differnt results. But after changing the Latency timer from device maanger. I am getting 150 outputs on the right actuator and approx 130 outputs on the left actuator.

My question is: Is it dangerous when your getting different output rates between the two adaptors?

My results are very irrate. Somtimes the difference is 20 outputs per second. Somtimes the difference is 60.

    Re: SCN5 Hardware Thread

I found the profiler would begin getting unstable below 5ms and lock up occasionally. It wasn't very often but it stopped locking up altogether when I went to 6ms. I'm not sure that it matters anyway since the games can't output data that fast.

    Re: SCN5 Hardware Thread

    hey guys,

well i found out one of my rs232 to 485 converters is no good. swapped them and it doesn't work. put the good on either side and the actuators respond. however i did some more testing and only 1 of my serial ports are working. the serial card i have has 2 slots http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications ... Port%20DB9 but only the one is working. any ideas? do you think i could just have a bad serial card? i wanna have some idea what to do. my new rs converters are on the way and unlike some of you, its been a while and i can't wait to try out this simulator. i'd like to plug in the simulator and go as soon as i get the new rs converters. any ideas how to check this? i've uninstalled the drivers, got the website drivers, had windows automatically install the drivers, idk what to do, i think its broke. only the one serial port works, the other one doesn't see the scn5. please help guys, thanks

    Re: SCN5 Hardware Thread

Check the com port assignments of your pci serial card in the windows device manager. Assign both com ports to 3 and 4. Higher numbers (afair >8) may cause probs.

    Re: SCN5 Hardware Thread

hey ego, thanks for the response, currently 3 and 4 are the comports i'm using. however, it also says in device manager that i have unusable parallel port (LPT3) and also usb serial port (com3) i have disabled the com3 usb, maybe this is causing the problem? :?

    thanks

    Re: SCN5 Hardware Thread

If you have disabled comport 3, it should be clear why comport 3 does not work :brows:

Set the pci card comports in the device manager to 4 and 5...

    Re: SCN5 Hardware Thread

I also have this card with the MosPort chip. It provides 2 COM ports and 1 unusable LPT port. THe unusable LPT port is normal for this card. Something on your motherboard is probably conflicting with the card for interupts. Try going into your BIOS/CMOS setup utility when the PC boots up (usually by pressing F1 or F10 for Setup) and disabling all COM ports on the motherboard. If you aren't using an old style printer, you can also diable any LPT ports on the motherboard as well.

If this doesn't work, send me your driver version so I can compare it to mine.

    Re: SCN5 Hardware Thread

    Hi all,

I'm going to use a SCN6 actuator in my motion simulator. I would like to say in this thread that SCN6 is automatically detected by Force-Profiler using SCN5 serial. So it is compatible with SCN5 plugin.

Below there is connection diagram with ILK protection. The pins connetion is different to SCN5.
Pins 1 and 3 are connected to VCC
Pins 2 and 4 are connected to GND
    Pins 12 is ILK

    Re: SCN5 Hardware Thread

    hey benard,

i just looked in the bios and it doesn't have anything for comports. my mobo doesn't have any onboard comports. it does have serial port address option. since its a pic serial card, you think that has anything to do with it? it has a bunch of options for it and i can write them here if you think it might be it. as for the drivers, in the device manager it says they are:

    driver date: 12/24/08
    driver version: 2.0.0.16

once i plugged in the serial card and turned on the computer, windows automatically installed these drivers for the card. are these the drivers you're using?

    thanks

    Re: SCN5 Hardware Thread

hey guys, finally got them to both work. the problem was the lpt3 unuasable parallel port, i had the enable legacy plug and play detection checked. once i unchecked that, both ports worked fine. as soon as i get the other rs converter, i'm good to go :D

thanks for the responses guys

    Re: SCN5 Hardware Thread

Hello. I finally have the SCN5 actuators for my sim project.
I tried to communicate with them with no success. Any help will be appreciated.
I attempt to communicate win SCN5 with two types of RS485 ports:
    1.- VScom USB <-> RS485/RS422 adapter (http://www.vscom.de/620.htm)
    2.- MOXA CP-132I native RS485/RS422 x2 ports (http://www.moxa.com/product/CP-132.htm)

All ports are configurable: (already tried all combinations)
    -TxD always enabled ON/OFF
    -RxD always enabled ON/OFF
    -CTS always enables ON/OFF
    -Automatic Data Direction ON/OFF

    Bus impedance = 115ohm

A serial sniffer catch the Force Profiler messages send to SCN5. No response from the actuator. I did the test with both SCN5 with the same result.

    Any idea?

    Re: SCN5 Hardware Thread

The best thing to do is do the TEST on them instead of trying them with a game. So this way you do not need to keep openining and closing the game.http: bvillersjr did a test plugin. It is in a thread somewhere. All you then is open profiler and force sender and run the test plugin and then there is bars which you move up and down the actuators should move.

When you switch on your mains to power the actuators, if you put your ear close to the actuator you should here a motor noise to atleast know there is power to it.

    Re: SCN5 Hardware Thread

    Hi everybody ,

I'm using this convert for my system and it doesn't work. I've tried debug mode and it says that response is not correct from SCN5 on port com3
    Please help!!!

    Products Content:
PAUB003 is a kind of USB to RS-485/422 industrial intelligent converter. It is the best solution for the communication between USB and RS-485/422. Compared with RS-232 to RS-485/422 converter, USB485 USB toRS-485/422 converter has many advantages
    Features
    1.Small volume, easy installation
2.No power supply needed, plug and play
3.Adopt DIP switch setup, random switch RS-485/RS-422 interface
4.Transmit distanc reach up to 1800M at the rate of 115200bps.
5.Automatic send data control, auto distinguish and sense direction adout data transfer
6.Auto sense serial signal rate, zero delay automatic transmit

I've tried several config of time but nothing...

    Thanks for your help.

    Thanks for your quick answer,

If there is really an echo, which mean can I use to solve this issue???

    You said :
That means, I link the 2 com port with a wire ???
And what is to commande line in the hyperterminal ???

    thanks again
