    Hi Smitty

Firstly thank you for sharing your project with us.

Are there any measurements on the base of the simulator which in hindsight you would do differently?

You made a post about your simulator moving, on one of your crash videos you can see the thing significantly lifting from the floor.

Would you suggest making the base bigger or did you just tune down the motors to avoid this phenomenon?

    Thanks!

The base is plenty wide and heavy enough, but i have switched from flypt to DRSM https://docs.departedreality.com/dr-sim-manager

which has a really great crash detection, it pauses telemetry for a few seconds and then smoothly resumes after things have settled down. I don't have to wince as i'm about to hit something anymore, and the base doesn't hop around.

    Thanks for your quick feedback!

I'm using SimTools but I might have a look at DRSM. Looks interesting.

The joystick Y axis needed an upgrade! With the joystick extension, it just wasnt strong enough for my taste, and it kept getting pretty warm in acrobatic planes. So, i converted it to the 86BLF04 motor and 10:1 gearbox. at full power you need 2 hands to pull it back!

Hello, in flyPt, for the "lower platform radius" parameter, should I measure the distance between the output shafts of the two opposing gear reducers, or the distance between the two opposing rod end bearings (rose joints) on the lower platform?

Hi Smitty, what VR equipment do you use? What is your recommendation? Regards from Germany. P.S. Stepperonline EtherCAT Motors and gear boxes just arrived. Will start my 6DOF-project soon ...

VR is in a really weird spot right now.

Every headset currently available has some type of drawback.

PiMax Light has good screens and appears to be a low price but requires Vive base stations and the tracking faceplate for another ~$500. This headset has no cameras for tracking. The Super has cameras for inside out tracking but is somewhat expensive not to mention on the bulky side. They also just released the Dream Air, very cool but same issues as the Crystal Light and is extremely expensive.

Meta Quest 3 is likely the most popular and has good visual clarity. Has it's pros and cons as well but performs well.

Sony PS VR2 has been around for a little over a year on PC. Decent unit but visual clarity is not quite as good as the Quest. Most inexpensive option available. I currently use a PS VR2 and looking to upgrade.

Galaxy just released a new VR set and it has a few issues.

Valve is going to release a new VR called Steam Frame at some point this year but the high memory and chip prices have delayed its release. The resolution of the LCD screens sounds a little behind the times but the wireless aspect is interesting if they can pull it off.

If looking into VR, it's fantastic in a motion sim and the immersion is off the charts. But it's a rabbit hole as the industry feels quite fractured and in the end many games have to run through SteamVR. And that is not always a "pleasant" experience to say the least.
