I have the Vive, Oculus CV1 and Pimax 5k+, plus Quest + Link.

I have used the Vive Deluxe Audio Strap and aftermarket face foam on the Pimax, which makes a world of difference for comfort and audio.

The Pimax FOV in my view is a significant advantage for sim rigs, as is Lighthouse tracking as you can either use the built in Pimax motion cancellation, or the member driven Open VR motion cancellation (rift not currently supported): https://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/openvr-motioncompensation.14576/

While the Pimax is my current go to HMD for my rig the poor effort in completing Kickstarter goals for backers and service concerns has held me back from upgrading my Pimax, as I am still considering my options.

I know i am asking on a older post, but it's 2020 now and i have a full frame 2DOF chair mount + traction loss motion platform and a RIFT CV1 - Unfortunely, my previously-working CV is not working ..
Somehow either facebook or Oculus or Gforce 1080 screwed something up and now my CV1 headset requires some unknown upgrade.. spent about 8 hrs total reloaded and deleting and reloading oculus software.. (trouble ticket opened)..
My question is this, is the RIFT S a better choice? I was totally impressed with CV1 compared the the old 3 screen setup I love to 'Drive' in Asseto Corsa - So YES i am IN for VR as nothing else compares (for me, anyway)
Should i buy a RIFT S or something else? Will it work with my motion platform ?
    Thanks ahead for any responses..

What VR HMD to buy depends a bit on your budget and priorities.

If your rig does not have huge axis movements you can get away without motion compensation, which means you can include HMDs with inside out tracking, like the Rift S and Reverb (there are different versions). Or you could consider alternate options like the Index and Pimax.

I have a few headsets and definitely use my Vive Pro the most. pimax has some interesting solutions, but I dont really trust them as much.

I used to have an original VIVE which worked great in assetto , Pcars ,etc
I have now sold it and awaiting my G2 delivery.

I will get a motion rig in due course, in next few months.

I've heard people having some good experiences with the HP headsets, but I'm not very familiar with them. What I've heard is they're great for racing/stationary games.. but anything else and it's a crapshoot. Maybe someone else can chime in about the HP sets.

The inside out tracking has been an issue with earlier HP HMDs, as has the lens, the latter in the G2 have been significantly improved via the partnership with Valve with improved FOV, reduced glare and increased sweet spot along with off ear audio, while the controllers have been revamped with improved, as has the tracking with 4 camera, see the dedicated G2 thread: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/hp-reverb-g2-to-be-sold-on-steam.14605/#post-201706

You can even hack the G2 to use index controllers, if you want the best of both worlds: https://www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/hp-reverb-g2-to-be-sold-on-steam.14605/#post-202457

I have received my eye traking module 4 days ago and I had no time to test it out.

    IMG_2790.JPG

I finaly had the time today and I installed it.

    IMG_2791.JPG IMG_2792.JPG

    First impression:
It's scrap. 229 usd for such a piece of sh... It's robbery.
I paid 99 as a backer + shipping + custom, and it was way to much.

    It reduce the FOV.
    It introduce reflections.
It's loose, hard to install, without a decent instruction paper.
I tested it 2 minutes and I hate it already.
I will probably remove it all together.

My advice: stay as far as possible from that scam.

Listen to that video, it describe exactly the experience I had:

All a bit sad really. After spending 3 years waiting for the 8kx which still had issues, no way was I going to order any thing else in relation to PIMAX , without lots of solid reviews.

My last update was the november 21 and I think I did not touch my headset since.
But look what I just got.

    box.jpeg

I was not expecting much, because I thought that I only received the hand tracking.
    But when I opened it...

    goals.jpeg

I was impress. A lot more stuff than I expected, but I don't really feel like tempering with that tonight, so I'll check it more tomorow. This tells how much my buzz for Pimax fell down the barrel.

Yesterday, I installed the KDMAS (delux head strap) on my pimax.

Of course, there was no instruction what so ever. I had to check a video as old part of the headset were hard to remove. Physical force was the only answer. I was hoping to keep the eye tracking mod that I had so much trouble to install.

    with_eye_tracking.jpeg

But it turn out that some of the new part for the head strap were not physicaly compatible with the eye tracking module. Way to go Pimax and 7invensun!

    imcompatible_mods.jpg

I end up removing the eye tracking all together. I even removed those metal frame you see now STICK on my lenses.

    lens.jpeg

Still the end result is not bad. The head set is more heavy, but it feel nice for the most part. We will see with time.

    trois_quart.jpeg

I did not have time to test the hand tracking module yet.

    Pierre.

i just built in the past 2 months of I9 9900k with 16 gigs of ram with rtx 2070 super for my HP reverb G2. just barely enough to hit mid 80's fps and for my sim rig i thought i would get better then what i had before.

Can't remember by heart. Too lazy to go in next room to check it out. GTX1060, I5 something. Can't remember if I have 16G or 32G of ram. I run the Pimax at lower stat to get a bit of performance.

what resolution and/or pixel scaling do you run it at on a 1060?? I struggle with a 1080Ti and the rift cv1 :/
