I downloaded this script and several related tools to test it tonight. If its not working I'll go the hard way by learning Eagle after all.

    Thanks,

Thanos: Which CAD tool are you using now? I could possibly lay it out for you at work if you have a netlist. But you probably want to learn something new!?

I think I will build your interface myself also. I have access to all components at work. Keep up the good work! :)

I use expressPCB. Its easy to use cad software but it only output in a format that expresspcb etching service can use to develop the boards. And it has good print function (seperate layers etc.)

    http://www.expresspcb.com/

But I'd like to try eagle too as it can export to gerber and excellon data files that many eching services use after all. I asked a local etching service what needs to develop my board and the answer was the same: Gerber and excellon files!

@egoexpress - Nice little piece of pcb! So now we soon see a video of a working SimForceGT?

BTW: How many working x-sim's are there? I miss some videos of a D.I.Y frex style sim.

Do we program the AVR with your interface board too.. (by using the dip switches?) or do I build the serial programmer from the Pony site?

I should have this unit working next week all being well.
My supplier tells me that he will have all the parts on Monday, and I will make the board over the weekend.

Thats way I embedded the PonyProg programming circuit on the avr motion controller board! I did so, to be is easy to program it for the beginners without the need of building programmers etc...

You only need to connect a serial cable (simple extension, NOT NULL modem!!) between the PC and the the avr motion controller board and connect with wires the two programming headers. I left them unconnected in case you might want to use different external programmer to download to it the firmware.

Then you just follow the ponyprog guide I made for the rest of the procedure...

Hi, i have collect most of the nessescary electronic items in a public shoppingcart at reichelt.de:

    http://www.reichelt.de/?ACTION=20;AWKID ... ROVID=2084

Unfortunately i didn´t find the correct capacitors and didn´t find the white and black pin header. So, please take a look and add the missing items to the shopping cart if you find them, and publish the new link here!!!

All in all, the costs will be round about 20,00 Euro incl. shippingcosts within germany. Also i am not sure, if i put the correct zener diode...would be nice if someone check the shopping cart.

    regards René

    Edited the shoppingcart-link!

    Hi Thanos,

Probably a dumb question and one asked before. And if I was etching it I would have trialed the sizing manually with paper before printing out onto iron-on transfer but...

The photoetch company I am getting to etch has asked if the PDF is 1:1 ratio.

BTW: He is charging NZ$61 for the job not including drilling, so I am happy about that!

Please let me know soon so I can give him the go ahead!

    thanks

    Hi Rene,

The Zener watt should be much less, under 0.5watt

And the resistors should be also 1/4watt!!!

For the capacitors you can use larger voltage rate if can find exactly the ones I gived in the list. But be aware that their size maybe larger!

The rest of the list looks good.

Just one note. I bought all the part on the list for just 12euro in a local electronics store. Isn't 20euro a little high? It doesn't even include the white headers (molex is their name)

    Hi,

i edited the Reichelt public cart, and i found the 3pin molex connectors. But they are damn expensive!!! 0,91 Euro :x

    link

Has someone a idea, where i do get similar headers for the pcb?
Hat jemand einen Link, wo man ähnliche Stecker beziehen kann?

    regards

    Tada!

Christian may have been the first but I have 4!!

    avr_thanos.jpg avr_thanos1.jpg

But seriously the etching company just etched page 2 of Thanos' PDF and fit it on a standard size sheet twice and charged me NZ$25 for the film work and NZ$25 for the board. Bargain!!

So a question...which one should I use? The one with least foil or the one with more foil? Does it matter. Shielding consideration?

And if there are any kiwi's out there who want a board made up I have the filmwork on file at Advanced Circuits so let me know and save some money!

Nice! Hurry up with the assembling ;D

The one with less foil needs more etching fluid. But its easier to DIY and its easier to solder, because you dont shortcut that easy to ground. But in general it makes no differnce which one you use.

    Hi Evan,

The PCB's looks good, and they are tinned too! Yes the price was pretty cheap!!!

Now have patience with the drilling process!!

    I haven't received mine yet... :(

I was looking around for motor controllers that can provide 24volt with PWM input and found this:

    http://www.acroname.com/robotics/parts/R133-MD03.html

The MD03 can be used directly with my AVR motion controller if used in MODE2 (0v - 5v ,or PWM equiv., with seperate direction control).

Its a little more expensive but its powerfull!
