Or you can run it with Win+R and then type/copy&paste "steam://run/323910" and press "enter".

Well HTC has charged my card for my Vive pre-order today, which is more than I can say for Oculus.

I think it very likely that I will have the Vive first, as only a few US Kickstarter backers have got a Rift and nobody with pre-orders.

Guy beside me at work is a VR fan and has the rift dk versions. He keeps a close eye on everything and is a developer himself and tinkers with the VR dev stuff. He's cancelled his rift pre-order and ordered a VIVE. That pretty much tells me everything I need to know.

I am getting both, but have to say I feel Oculus has really botched its CV launch.

I got the feeling at the time that as soon as they saw the Vive release date getting closer that they panicked and decided within a couple of days that they would start taking pre orders. Almost like a pre-emptive strike just to say they would be released first. The biggest issue I see is the extra price of the rift controllers. I think it'll be more than we're expecting and it'll push it even further out of people's budget.

The problem with the Rift Touch controllers is the uncertain delivery time frame, which the botched launch does not help, the unknown cost and for international customers the unknown cost of shipping. Oculus charges US $132 for shipping the Rift to Australia, so it is a significant unknown for the Touch controllers.

At least the Vive is the complete package at launch. And so far Oculus has set the bar really low for what constitutes a successful CV launch.

Seems like I need to do a road trip up the East Coast in a week or two!

Its been fascinating watching the Reddit Oculus thread implode in the last few days.

Very pleasant, lets hope HTC knows how to post a parcel! Quite a large parcel as well by the looks of it.

Warts and all review of the games for the Vive.

Have to admit, if it was not for my Sim and the car/flight games, I would struggle to qualify the purchase of a product with this software base.

I think this needs a bit of a context, 11 hrs straight of VR was not a good idea when they did it with the Rift and it is no better of an idea for the Vive.

Reviews do vary, and for different reasons, but at least here is a bit of a global overview: http://www.metacritic.com/feature/htc-vive-vr-headset-reviews

Even within the flight/space and race sim genre, which are ideal sit down VR experiences, quality VR support is pretty slim pickings. Content limitations are inherent in VR being a new consumer technology.

Agree @noorbeast , but it is not people like you who need to be convince. If you are honest - even now with the release of two VR CVs, you have to admit that allot of the current 'games' just feel like tech demos with limited use past a couple of minutes. In my circle of friends even though they love my Sim setup, currently no one has any interest in getting into VR..

I consider the current crop of launch games are tech demos, including the likes of EVE: Valkyrie. It will be years yet before there is AAA style VR games.

The best in terms of extensive game play is where quality VR support is added, like with LFS, ED, Pcars, DCS and Flyinside for FSX and P3D. For me these titles are now pretty lame without VR.

I don't think general consumers should just jump into VR, it is still a very niche area at the moment and will be for some time yet. I would say the same of commercial motion sims. But for specific early adopters using quality VR supported titles, particularly with DIY motion sims, it is an awesome experience and in my view is worth the steep investment.

@noorbeast - Would you consider starting a "sticky" or FAQ with what games are supported with what VR headset, once you get yours?

Just to use VR instead of 3 monitors would be enough excuse for me... but need to be sure the games I play are supported.

There will be differences between the Rift and Vive in what is supported or not, but what runs on the CV1 Rift should also run on the DK2, at least for now. However, one of the difficulties at the moment is that VR is a bit of a mix of the old and the new, so AC needs the old runtime while Pcars is best on the latest runtime. I suspect the majority here will likely use Steam versions, but there has already been someone ask about the Oculus Home specific version of Pcars. In other words it is going to be a bit messy for a little while

@Historiker has created and collected a bunch of existing VR information in a specific VR section, so there is now a place to gather the VR contributions from everyone: http://www.xsimulator.net/community/forums/vr-headsets-and-gaming-virtual-reality.160/

I can then create a specific VR entry in the Games section of the FAQs, so it is easier to find relevant posts from the VR thread section.

yep Pcar is drop dead gorgeous now on Oculus. If using Oculus home of Pcars need to use the udp plugin, but from what I hear , the Simcommander is not working , plus SimVibe and Simx Wheel crashes the oculus 1.3 runtime. UDP violation.

Damn 11 hrs straight on rift , done 4hrs and yea like taking a helmet off the world looks funny.

Just checked the price of the Vive. When shipped to AU it's US$899. ($100 more than the US price) (ex shipping)
HTC say that GST is included in the sale price. How can a US supplier charge GST on an imported product?

Bloody Australia Tax in full swing again.

PS - Not buying, was just curios what full cost would be.

Shipping is $110 US. Total = $1009.00 and I believe import duties may also apply.

It is over AU $1000 so GST applies and likely HTC has done what Oculus did, registered for GST.
