Here is a simple way of identification of two FT232R devices:

1.Plug in the first FT232R device, record the serial number of the chip (by a button perhaps in profiler) and put a stick note on it that says LEFT SCN5...

    2. Unplug the first FT232R device and connect the second FT232R device and again record its serial number. Put a stick note on it too that says RIGHT SCN5!

Now you will know which adapter is for left or right (from the stickers) and profiler will know that too since it will track each adapter by its serial number!!! This way no programming or special configuration tools for the FT232R are needed from the side of user to add extra identification data to each adapters epprom, except to install it with D2XX driver the first time!

Even if the user plug the adapters to different USB ports or swap them, the profiler will always know their designation!

    Simple isn't it?

This might be a dumb question but how is the x,y axis in the profiler mixed for coupled actuator operation? :?

    Hi Evan,

As long as I know there is no mixing in the math modules that you can enable with a button in current profilers (old and new beta). It can be done in some output modules like the one that is used for pneumatics by controlling the timing of firing of each valve...

Sadly this does not exist in the USO module that gives only uncoupled axis information. In that case I did the channel mixing myself, in hardware level, inside the AMC firmware!! In the latest firmware v1.0 you can enable SimForceGT actuator mixing using a dip switch ;D

    Regards, Thanos

PS. Sorry for the Off Topic...

Thanks for that nfo, and I don't think it is off topic because how is the SCN5 actuator going to address this for a frex style geometry?

Its simple. The mixing of the channels for SimForceGT-type motion can be done in the math modules, before the data is sent to the module that controls the rs485 signals for the SCN5's. This way the control module will always handle the SCN5 actuators in uncoupled manner, in case someone wish to use them for different motion profile simulator (RnR, joyrider, simple 2DOF platform etc...)

oh okay, so this mixing module exists or is there a plan, and triggered by SCN5 activity, to build a new module (only) for rs485 interface?
As far as I can work out, and you confirm, the profiler (USO) only provides for uncoupled actuator interaction. Actually, and with no disrespect to sirnoname, I find this limitation rather surprising!

    Hey Evan, Thanos,

Though there wouldnt be a problem to mix the axes in an external hardware, like in Thanos' controller, you are able to mix them easily right in the Profiler1/2 axis/effect config tables always!

    up/down: axis 1 normal + axis 2 normal
    left/right: axis 1 normal + axis 2 inverted

But for X-Sim beginners a 2DOF with mixed axes-plugin could be more handy perhaps ;D

    Christian

Christian, that is fantastic news! I'd rather not have to build a seperate X,Y mixer 'breakout box' if I didn't have to!

Once the controllers I have ordered arrive I may have to call on your help setting up the config table, if you wouldn't mind!! ;P

But I'll set up a new topic with the controller board as title and ask for help in there!

    cheers
    Evan

I've received a notification today. It stucks in the local customs office. I'll probably pick it up tomorrow, and then I'll send it to Sirnoname immediatly.
Wish me luck that they do not rip me off tomorrow :D

Edit: They want to know what's the parcel' content, and it's duty ID#.
But I dont have clue what for a number a mechatronics cylinder has :rollsad:

    Hi,

please look. It is called TARIC:

    Number should be here:
    http://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/dd ... &Year=2008

    Code:
    8412
    Andere Motoren und Kraftmaschinen
    1 8412210000 linear arbeitend (Zylinder)
    2 8412310000 linear arbeitend (Zylinder)
Maybe the duty officer can help, too, but i think it is the best to decide for only one number, so the duty has no chance to refuse the delivery.

    Kind regards
    René

The officer? help? Yes, help to fill their pockets with our money

Well, imho the SCN5 is a high-tech product, as it consists of an intelligent positioning controlling unit. As you may know, high-tech products are duty-free.
The problem is now, that it mainly depends on the duty officer, if I will be able to convince them about that.

So it may not be the best option, to use the TARIC code you proposed, as it describes a dumb actuator like the firgelliauto' acutators for example.
Besides that it is not a linear motor as well. The nanotec motors we had before would fit into this category.
    But thanks anyway

    Perhaps this one:

Well, processing hex command strings into motion is kind of processing coded data, isn't it?

    Nice,

did you get it tax free as a highTec product :D That would be very cool to save a lot of money for next orders.
Which TARIC did you fill in the form?

    regards,René
